Lightroom 2.0 will not export to Photoshop CS3

OK,

So I downloaded and installed lightroom 2.0 this morning and things are not working well.

System: Macpro 2.8, 8 gb ram, os x 10.5.4, nikon d300 raw files

The problem...

It started with Lightroom not exporting any images to photoshop. Doesn't matter if I try to send 1 or 20, I get a spinning beach ball, then nothing. if photoshop is closed it will open it, but nothing gets loaded into it. Plain export, merge to panoramic, edit as smart object, nothing does anything.

Tried in both 32 and 64 bit modes, tried re-installing Lightroom 2.0 from scratch. still nothing. I sent a sample raw file into adobe and am waiting to hear back, but figured I'd see what everyone else thinks as well.

Andrew, are you on Mac or Windows? Did you have a chance to try re-applying the 10.0.1 patch?

If anyone here is about to try Betty's suggestion of changing the bit depth in Preferences, please save off your prefs file first. If her suggestion works for you, the please send the prefs file to me at kevint (at) adobe.com.

The prefs file can be found at:

Mac: /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom2.plist
Windows: /Users/<username>/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences/Lightroom 2 Preferences.agprefs

Thanks!

-kevin

    Kevin,

Thanks for the quick fix to problem 1 - I downloaded 10.0.1 patch and reapplied. I can now get RAW files to open in PS.

I still have problem 2 - the file (saved from PS) does not show up in Lightroom unless I synchronize the folder.

I'm glad to see that Kevin and his colleagues are attending to problem #2 described above. I posted a notification on this in the online help pages where comments can be posted some 5 days ago and heard nothing from anyone. It's a shame Adobe is so large and has so many forums and online sites - error reports seem lost in the morass.

Until they fix this...this work around has enabled me to continue with my standard workflow...namely: add CS3 as the alternate editor (as well as the default). Then right click the rawfile in the library and type e and n...this will open CS3 (alternate link) and edit the file. When saved, the tiff file is then loaded into the library next to the raw, and if the stacking option was chosen, the files can be stacked.

Incidentally, this problem did not occur in the beta version of LR2.0

Hope you issue a patch soon...it would be nice if you also notify all registered users when the patch is ready...

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Another update: It appears at least one of the reported problems (of flavor #1) was caused by some extra XMP data written into the sidecar .xmp that's giving Camera Raw some indigestion. In this case, the data was added by a tool called idimager. I've added a bug for this and we'll be looking into how to fix this.

Damon, it does sound like you're getting bitten by the second problem I referred to. We're looking into that one now (as well as variations on the first problem).

    Kevin,

I can now see that you are correct in saying LR 2 behaves differently, with no dialogue box as per LR 1.x as the Edit In CS3 option now works!
I downloaded the CS3 patch and it's all great.

The one remaining one is that after editing in CS3, save and close the photo and it comes back to LR in a second drive (Z: in my case). I sync the original folder in my catalogue, remove the new one and it's as I'd expect.
Again, this may well be by design but even if it's not then I can live with it for now. I'm just happy I can use the panorama tool!

    Thanks Kevin, very much appreciated.

For those of you experiencing problem 1...

Try removing any apostrophes from your folder, file, and catalog names.

That has fixed the problem for me!!!

    Kevin,

I was having the problem where I could not get LR2 to open a file in PS CS3 using CS3 as the primary editor. CS3 would open, but not the file and LR would not know that CS3 opened.

I just checked my system settings. Patch 10.0.1 had been applied but Scripting Settings was still at 10.0. So I reapplied the patch as you suggested and so far all looks as if it has fixed the problem for me.

    Thanks,

I cannot edit in CS3 either. I checked the versions, and they look okay by Kevin's criteria too. However, creating the new catalog does not resolve my problem.

    I'm running Vista 64-bit.

    I have more variations.

1.) Open as Smart Object: I have to navigate to the correct folder. Photoshop doesen't know, where the file comes from. No ghost folder

2.) Photomerge: saves in the correct folder and creates a ghost folder with the same drive letter as the original folder.

3.) Merge to HDR: saves in the correct folder and creates an empty ghost folder.

4.) Open as layers: same as 2.)

This happens with my main catalog and a new test catolog.
    My system is XP, SP3.
