Question

Lightroom 6 Classic crashes continuously

Hi, it's 3-4 month since LR chrashes when i tried to eliminate more pictures (more than 10-15) or i try to use the face detect.

Thinking it was for a harware problem (the catalogue arrived at 750gb for 26.000 pictures -but changes only a little in the last 8 months and i've problems only in hte last 4 mo), i've upgraded the pc.

From an Ryzen 5 2600 HDD to a I5 12400F with fast M.2. The gpu remained Nvidia GTX 1050TI 4gb as the 16gB Ram DDDR4.

The catalog remained the same (i've only one).

Have i wasted my money?

The situation didn't changes except for 3-4 seconds gained when i enter the face-detect section (and then crush).

Please help me!!!!!!

GPU Drivers will not influence your crashing of Lr6!  Face Recognition in Lr6 simply does not work!

See another Laura Shoe blog on the topic that explains why-

https://laurashoe.com/2020/12/31/lightroom-6-people-view-crashing-the-end-of-the-road-draws-nearer/

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.0, Photoshop 27.0, ACR 18.0, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0 .

Thanks, i'm reading the article. But i don't care so much about the face recognition, the limitation and problem is in the other everyday situations.

It does not matter if you want Face Recognition, or NOT - if it is turned [on] it will crash Lr6.

You first stated- "when i enter the face-detect section (and then crush)"

Have you reset Preferences as suggested by @johnrellis ?

If Lr starts up, Can you turn Face Recognition [off] [Paused] under the top Identity Plate?

Lr6 is not known to be compatible with Windows-11. It will not install in Mac iOS (BigSur, Catalina, Monterey)

Face detection causes crashes in Lr 6.   See here.   It will not be fixed

Very interesting article, thank you.

Now i'm thinking about my last use of face recognition feature.....it cold be effectively before Nv 2020!

But i've the problem also when i erase some pictures (more tha 10-15, althought) and this one appeared only in the last 4/5 months.

What GPU Driver version?

And Studio or GameReady driver?

Driver 456.71.

Now i'm trying with the latest Studio: 528.49, but it's rare that the situation will risolve since i used LR6 from 2017 and i changed at least 2 driver versions without any problem. Untill sept/oct 2022, but i haven't changed the driver version in the past 2years....

I should have included my thought of if the driver was v531.18, then some issues could occur, having little or nothing to do with Lr, but with a bad driver in general.

Please do these troubleshooting steps:

1. When you say "crash", do you mean that LR abruptly exits?  Do you see a system crash report appear? Or does LR just hang and stop responding?

2. Try setting Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor to Off and restarting LR. Does the problem still occur?

3. Update your graphics driver by going directly to the manufacturer's web site:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html#solution-4

4. Do File > Optimize Catalog.

5. Try resetting LR's preferences:
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

6. Do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running.

FoA Thanks for the answer. It' a difficult problem, i think.I've tried a lot of solutions......  Sorry for my english.

1- For crash i mean that the program ends immediatly, without any system crash report (even if i've turned on the crash report as indicated in a Adobe Faq or indication.

2- Already tryed in the past and now.No changes

3- I'm using LR6 from 2017 and i changed at least 3 driver versions without any problem.

Untill sept/oct 2022, but i haven't changed the driver version in the past 2years, so how it can be the cause? However (thanks again for every attemp for the resolution!!!!),  after this answer, i'll try the Studio: 528.49.

4- Already tryed in the past and now.No changes

5- Tried now. No changes

6- Here you are. Even if the problem occurred also with my old configuration (amd ryzen 5 2600 and hdd 2tb).

NOTE: the os is win11. The LR indicates Windows 8.1 Business Edition, probably because is the newest for the 6th       version (my hypothesis...)

The strange thing is that when LR chashes the percentage of use of the cpu-m.2-ram is low. The percentage of use of the CPU goes toward 100% only when i scroll rapidly the pictures in the aggregate view, but in that case the program doesn't crash but i notice only a few slowdown.
