"Lightroom 6 is the last stand-alone version of Lightroom that can be purchased outside of a Creative Cloud membership. There will not be a Lightroom 7 perpetual offering. Lightroom 6 will remain for sale for an undetermined amount of time, but will no longer be updated with camera support or bug fixes after the end of 2017. Lightroom 6.13 with support for the Nikon D850 will be released on October 26th, 2017"

No! Adobe needs to continue to support a perpetual model for licensing. Many people prefer to invest once, create a process and stick to it until such a time they feel new features or capabilities or systems warrant a change. Not only do some people not want recurring expenses to keep using a product but also like the stability of a known environment that isn't constantly being updated and if if doesn't work for you, you have no option to continue to use an older stable version typically in a subscription based model. Or you spend a painful amount of time getting back to older version with many headaches getting there.

Customers, particularly creative people, like options that fit their needs and goals. As much as I like Lightroom and would miss many of it's features, this is enough for me to look elsewhere for these tools. Particularly when  LR Classic CC has introduced so many performance and use issues in its work to move to subscription only, consistent feature set across both product options.

It’s senseless to discuss this further, as Adobe made it’s choice. That is probably a choice based on Adobes insight of perpetual and subscription users. Looking for alternatives is Ok, they are out and probably just waiting for Adobe customers unhappy with Adobe‘s decisions. I know many people switching to the subscription model recently.

I discontinued using Photoshop and Premiere Elements years ago.  I moved to Affinity Photo and Pinnacle Studio Ultimate, which is near-professional quality.  I am so glad I switched!  Lightroom 6 was the last Adobe product I currently use, and now that I know there will not be a version 7, will find another photo manager.  Between subscription based software, and licensing issues, GOOD RIDDANCE ADOBE!

    near-professional quality...

OK, so you're an amateur who doesn't need professional-grade software. Nothing wrong with that. One wonders, then, why you chose Adobe in the first place.

You must work for Adobe.  Anyone can google "pinnacle studio near professional quality" and find numerous articles that mention this.  Pinnacle Studio was formerly "Avid", which is used to edit movies such as Wonder Woman and other big titles.

I have used every version of lightroom.  I will not however "rent" any version of lightroom, so Adobe I guess this is goodbye, best of luck, I hope rentals keep you from going out of business, but I will no longer be with you.

No Im going to switch to capture one 11 and look into taking Adobe to court for breach of contract because when I got this Adobe clay claimed there would aways be an option to upgrade to later additions at discount for an off line version and light, and it would always be supported.

they took my money I expect to use what I own.

Good luck. Software companies come and go, and go out of business all the time. Software programs come to an end all the time. Lightroom 6 has come to an end. Adobe has provided a means whereby you can continue to get updates if you choose to follow the path they are NOW offering. If you don't choose to follow that path then you choose to end your association with Adobe. If you would rather spend your money trying to file a lawsuit, I guess that's your choice. It might be cheaper for you to subscribe to the photography plan.

Indeed. It's called getting on with one's life and not cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. I imagine one could buy a lot of years of the photography plan @ <$10 or less per month for less than the attorney's fees for an iffy lawsuit. But there are those who prefer to play the injured victim. I wonder if the OP plans to get C1 via direct purchase or subscription. What guarantee is there that C1 will not end direct sales!?

I am very unhappy. I prefer the stand alone version of LR. and I don't need Lightroom CC. it costs $120 per year. That is way less than the stand alone upgrade price. Which I'm sure is the reason for the switch. Also, LR isn't updated every year and so I don't have to spend that much yearly on a new program. This way gives me no option to not upgrade eventually. Unless I am able to find a suitable replacement program.

"Stand-alone" version: Lr Classic CC, Lr CC is the brand new cloud based Lr. See here: Lightroom CC vs. Lightroom Classic CC | Adobe . For now, your Lr 6 is still current. If you do not change to a newer camera, you can continue using that. If you change, you could use the free Adobe DNG Converter as a work around. See here: Digital Negative (DNG), Adobe DNG Converter | Adobe Photoshop CC . The Lr Classic CC subscription includes Photoshop. That alone is a bargain. That was the reason for me to take a Photographer's plan subscription.

Very disappointing news, but not surprising. I've used Lightroom since v4 as a hobby user but CC has never represented good value for me. If I was to work out the cost of CC per hour for a given month, quite often that would be an error (9.99 / 0).

I subscribe monthly to other services, but only those that I use sufficiently to justify the expense.

I'm happy to pay for software (I'm a software engineer by trade), but rent software I only use occasionally? No chance.

I would have paid the upgrade cost to LR7, even though this (and the last update) seems minor (features wise). I guess Adobe has long since realised that many programs have matured and major new features are hard to find. Subscription helps them with this problem!

I'll keep using LR6 for as long as I can (I'm still using PhotoShop CS6). If/when it stops working, I'll consider my options. CC won't be one of them.

The subscription does include Photoshop. For that it is a bargain. If you do not use Photoshop (or like your case) are happy with Ps CS6 then you need to look if the subscription is worth. My point is: some people own the latest (and most expensive) gear, the best Phone money can buy but they rage over the about 14€/month for using the software.

There are alternatives to Lr, there is no need to stay with Adobe, if you are unhappy. Some companies even make a point from the fact that you pay the software instead of renting.

At first, I was sceptical for the subscription model, but currently and from the point of my company, it is easier to shelf out some 60€ /month for the package than discussing the upgrade price for 6 seats. And adding a seat is very easy... And all software is included...

It's not black and not white, it's in colours.

You are free to use Lr6 until your computers stop supporting it. And today it's still good value.

As for me, I feel that all arguments have been used. I for my part have none to add.

I guess it's almost time to start using exclusively Photoshop Elements. The latest version is Photoshop Elements 2018. Not as good as lightroom, but at least it's a standalone and there is no subscription. I have used ACDSee in the past. It wan't so bad. I think I too will re-visit the software.

I've decided for the time being to go with Affinity photo for processing. For DAM purposes, anyone got nay suggestions?
Starting the process of moving away from Lightroom altogether, I won't be held ransom by a greedy company that can't even fix 7 year old bugs.

I suppose that with Lr there is noone "held ransom": https://www.lightroomqueen.com/end-of-perpetual-lightroom-licenses

You are free to feel unhappy with Adobe's decision and to be honest, I thought that the perpetual license would continue for Lr. Adobe took a decision and from the Adobe point of view, I understand that. From the user's point of view, I would stick with Lr 6 until my current camera would not be supported, which would be the case when buying a camera after the 6.14 release. There is, however, no hurry to change, as even then, DNG would provide a good work around.

The problems for the user is manageable for the foreseeable future.

I would be interested in this as well. My plan is to stick to standalone LR6 as long as it covers my needs, then I will switch. At the moment ACDSee Ultimate looks the most promising alternative, but I haven't done any serious testing yet.

I've got no problem with the subscription only price model as long as the price doesn't increase dramatically (currently £9.97 a month in the UK from Adobe), although better pricing is available if you shop around. Amazon currently has the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan with 20GB: Photoshop CC + Lightroom CC (1 Year Licence) for £69.99 (£5.83 a month) on their UK website.
