Missing ,NEF Files in Synced Lightroom CC Catalogue

Hi there, Ill keep this short. I have a Macbook air as well as a window desktop.

I shoot tethered into my MacBook and store my catalogue in my creative cloud folder, so that whenever I shoot, my catalogue is updated on all my devices. I accidentally saved my first tethered session NEF files in a local drive on my MacBook, so if course it did not sync with CC. My question is:

1) How do I tell Lightroom Classic CC on my windows machine which loads the same catalogue where those NEF images are (if I already copied them to the CC folder or a local folder on my windows machine)

2) How do I shoot tethered into my MacBook Air so that my windows machine also has access to not just the catalogue but NEF files without having to do anything but sync?

Not so short I guess... My issue on my desktop was that I could view the files just fine (previews) but could not export because Lightroom did not know where the files were.

Thanks a lot!!

Tom

So as much as this is helpful to a degree, its not exactly the answer I am looking for. I want to either point Lightroom to the location of missing photos that have been copied to a local folder after the fact or shoot tethered into Lightroom in a way that will allow me to have access to the files and be able to edit them one either machine,

What happened was that I started a tethering session but forgot to change the folder where the images would go to the creative cloud sync folder. The images were shot into my MacBooks hard drive, and only the catalogue was synced (because it is saved in the synced CC folder) So what happened when I opened up the catalogue on my main machine was that I was able to see the previews (which had also been synced) but I was not able to edit the photos or export them because Lightroom could not find the NEF files.

I actually already solved this problem by copying the new files to the CC folder, going to Lightroom on my main machine, clicking library and then show all missing photos. Once I selected the destination of one of the missing photos it actually automatically found the rest of them.

However, I still don't know whether if I shoot into a subfolder (while tethered) which resides in the cc folder, if those shots will be viewable, and editable on both machines.

Sorry if I am just way too confused for my own good but I hope someone has an answer for that last part - tethering and having all shot files appear in BOTH computers.

    Thanks again!

The problem here is that you want to do edits on multiple computers and LR is not designed to do that.

Syncing via the cloud will let you do some minor edits without the original files, but eventually you will need the originals to be available.

The common method of using multiple machines is to put the original files and the catalog on an external drive and move the drive to the new computer as needed.

Since I don't do tethering, we will need someone more knowledgeable to address this in how it makes things more complicated.
