Muchas gracias!!!

when trying to open photos from an external card or drive, the photos do not open well in Bridge or Camera Raw or Photoshop.

Photoshop does not support opening photos from an external card or drive. Do you get the same results when you open files directly from your hard drive?

Read this entire help file; I've included a few key points. Be sure to follow the Recommended Workflow.

When you save and open files across a network or from removable media, many variables affect application performance. Therefore, some problems occur more frequently when you work across a network or from removable media than from a local hard disk

Adobe Technical Support only supports using Photoshop and Adobe Bridge on a local hard disk.

Technical Support strongly recommends working in Photoshop directly on the local hard disk. To prevent data loss, save files to your hard disk first. Then transfer them to the network or removable drive in the Finder or in Windows Explorer. To retrieve files, copy them in the Finder or in Windows Explorer from the network or removable drive to your hard disk. You can then open the files in Photoshop. This workflow avoids problems that occur when network system setups or removable media device drivers are incompatible with the operating system or Photoshop.

Thak you Jane! This has been the most accurate answer for what's going on with my programs. So sad because I have always worked through my SD card connected directly to my laptop and have edited in Photoshop like that... hope Adobe soon help fixing this issue. Thanks again for your help!

You're welcome @Carolina337525230s8p , I'm glad this helps!

It's not something Adobe can fix. There are so many variables at the user's end that Adobe cannot control. It can work for a while — until it doesn't. Then you risk corrupting and losing your files. In my opinion, it's not worth the risk and it's best to follow Adobe's recommended workflow. I don't have any files that I want to lose!

Settings are not related to the device as far as I know. You should have the same settings as anyone on any Mac running the same Photoshop version. Are you sure you looked at Preferences > Technology Previews? What is your Photoshop version? If you cannot figure it out, go to Help > About Photoshop.
