After restore to new computer, Organizer's folders do not indicate cataloged content

  1. Bought a new Windows computer.
  2. Installed Photoshop Elements 18 from Adobe web page.
  3. Onedrive took care of syncing the photos from the cloud.
  4. Restored catalog from full backup

 

Organizer's Media view shows all photos correctly.

Organizer's My Folders shows only folders to which I have imported since the restore. Show All Subfolders shows the expected subfolder tree. However:

  • Almost none show the binocular icon for folders holding imported files. Those that do have been created and the media imported after the installation
  • Selecting a folder gives the "No files from this folder have been imported into Elements Organizer. To add any files, right click on the folder and select "Import Media"
  • All of the folders hold imported files:
    • Import Media for a folder takes a long time and then says all files were skipped because they are already in the catalog.
    • The folder still does not show the binocular icon.
    • Selecting the folder still shows no content.

 

Repairing the catalog does not help.

Optimizing the catalog does not help.

What do you mean by that?  Elements 2018 can only handle files stored locally.

What destination did you use to restore the files?  Did you select to restore the original folder structure?

I suspect that when you restored the backup catalog, you did not choose the original destination or hiearchy.  So, if you are expecting your files to be in the OneDrive local folder, they have in fact been placed elsewhere and you probably have a duplicate set of images on your hard drive.  You can easily find where the catalog backup has restored the files by right-clicking on a file and choosing to Go to Folder.  You can then see which folder contains the catalog file in the My Folders tree view.
