Can I upgrade from PSE 6 directly to PSE 12?

I"m currently using PSE 6 on Windows 10, but would like to upgrade to PSE 12 (I have an unopened Costco "special edition" box). Will PSE 12 work with all my PSE 6 data files? If not, how can I do a conversion to PSE 12 format? Alternatively, what is the newest version of PSE that will work with my PSE 6 files?

If you have registered the PSE6 on your Adobe account, you are entitled to an 'upgrade price'. Note that it's often possible to shop around for a still better price from big Internet resellers.

Your PSE12 version can work on your PSE6 files. You may have got a 'redemption code' from Costco. If so, you'll have to get a real license key from Adobe to validate ('sign in' or 'activate') you PSE12.

    Help with redemption codes

When you install a new Elements version in the same computer, the install process searches for your current catalog and prompts you to 'convert' the catalog. You agree and a new catalog in the required format is created;  the old one is renamed with a -1 suffix and stays available for your old PSE.

The newest version is PSE 2018. If history repeats itself, a new PSE 2019 should be available in the beginning of October. It may be a good time now to find good deals for PSE2018.

Lastly, don't hurry to uninstall PSE6, both versions should work seamlessly on the same computer. You may need old features no longer available in recent versions.

Your advice worked well, and the PSE 12 installed properly, with one glitch: I had renamed the PSE 6 catalog yeaars ago, so after the install, I had to direct PSE 12 to the correct catalog.

PSE 12 is functioning properly, but it's displaying with a tiny, hard-to-read fault. I'm running it on Windows 10 on a Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus laptop, which has a 3200 x 1800 pixel screen. All my other programs display properly, two exceptions:

    • Quicken 2014 has few buttons that display with a tiny font
    • PSE 6 editor displays with a tiny font (PSE 6 Organizer displays with the normal fonts)

How do I get PSE 12 to display with the normal font size?

PSE12 was not ready to support high resolution screens (so- called HiDpi or 4k). Support was only added in PSE03.1.

So, you'll have to set your display, which is in between standard and 4k resolution, to a lesser resolution in your Windows preferences.
