Question

Windows 11 and PS Elements organizer

I have just moved from one PC to another running Windows 11 and reinstalled PS Elements 23 from my online account. I have run the installation .exe as an administrator and am able to start PS Elements. The first time I did this I was able to recreate my catalog and set up folders to watch, downloading 24K files. Now, when I select Organizer from the PS Elements screen, it starts up and shows a selection of photos, then after 20 seconds or so closes down again. I did read somewhere to find and delete the psa.prf file but I don't seem to have one. Any suggestions on how to run Organizer in a stable manner?

PS: I have been able to load PS Elements Editor after entering my serial number and locate files in the Catalog BUT when I click on Organizer I get an error message - somethings gone wrong - need to close - send error report

Why recreate the catalog when you could have copied the old one to the new machine.  See this HelpX article.

It's not entirely clear what you have done, but I suspect that if you have imported 24k files at once, the program is auto-analyzing the media (face recognition, smart tags etc.) and this can cause the program to become non-responsive.  If you are able to do so, as soon as the grid becomes available, press Ctrl+K to bring up the preferences dialog.  In the Media Analysis tab, uncheck all the boxes.  Close the dialog and relaunch the Organizer.  Does it make any difference?

If you are unable to get to the Preferences>Media Analysis tab, do the following:

  • Press the Shift key while launching the Organizer; this will bring up the catalog manager.
  • Create a new catalog.
  • Open the new catalog and dismiss any dialogs asking you to  add media.
  • If the empty catalog is stable, go to the Media Analysis preferences tab as descibed earlier and uncheck the boxes.
  • Close preferences and relaunch the Organizer
  • If the program remains stable, go to File>Manage Catalogs and select and open the catalog that is currently giving you problems.

Not sure why I re=created - just second nature I guess - setting up watched folders. Anyway, managed to uncheck all of the boxes and re-start but still shuts down, albeit with a longer time delay. I'll try the second method and see if it remains stable.

Started Organizer from Elements screen with SHIFT but catalog manager did not show up so I selected File/Catalog manager - tried repair but still nothing. Maybe I need to delete catalog or move and re-start?
