Users often ask how to do screen-caps, to show what is happening with their program. The video you see on GoPro's website and in their in-store displays is gorgeous - bright, crisp, super vibrant. The video my son has actually been getting with his GoPro Hero2? Decidedly less exciting. It's definitely sharp and nice HD quality, but my complaint is that it almost a desaturated look, with the colors muted and a little washed out.Given the differences between GoPro website footage and our footage, I'm guessing their website and in-store display video has had some liberal video editing applied, which is fine, except... I can't figure out how to get the same results! If it was a picture and I was using Lightroom, I could probably get it pretty close, but I can't seem to get anywhere close to what I'd like to see using the PRE Image Controls (brightness, contrast, saturation). The image controls seem kind of limited in what they do. Brightness seems to wash everything out instead of just increasing the highlights. Contrast... In an article on the PrPro forum, Dan Isaacs offered some tips on workflow for editing Camtasia, or Camstudio footage. Some of the steps involve using other programs, both freeware and from Adobe, but might be of use, should one need to do the work on the Techsmith CODEC footage in Premiere.LINK to article.Hunt

There are many things that can be going on with one's system, and even a brand new system (possibly more likely with a new system?). Neale has assembled a checklist that one should explore first:Work through these basics to see if it cures your problems.Install all Windows Updates.Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.9 at time of writing). Wil Renczes, from Adobe, just posted a great outline of what happens with Conforming and Indexing of files on Import. He was replying in the PrPro forum, but you can substitute PrE for PrPro in his post, as they are the same here. He also addresses why/how Conforming can not take, and the program will do this every time that the Project is opened, though the processes have already taken place before.Wil writes:PPro generates two potential sidecar files for audio - PEK and CFA files.  The PEK file is simply a quick data pass of the audio data that allows the app to draw waveforms (ie it should be pretty quick) - the CFA files are required if the file source is either too slow to decode the audio in realtime (like some MPEG long GOP, for instance), or if there's a mismatch in the sample rate depth.  The idea is that the conform files will match your sequence's audio bitrate settings so that the app can play & mix audio in realtime. Hi there - I have just purchased Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and I am trying to add subtitles to some video clips that I have on file.  The main problem that I am coming up against is the templates used for Titles - there doesn't appear to be a plain one, the one that interests me is the Fun Lower Third but I don't want the wave on the clip - just the text.  Is there any way I can edit the wave out or am I going about this in completely the wrong way? I would be grateful for any help you guys could offer me.

I've managed to add a Transition Effect to my timeline and I can't seem to add it to several spots in the timeline.  I'm a complete Noob to Effects.  What am I not doing that I should be doing?  I've captured video and had to stop it several times, then start capture again.  There appear to be markers on the video clips that I can't attach an effect to.  I've uploaded an image so you can see my issue in detail.See the red circles?  Those markers where the spilts took place, seem to by my problem.  Any help would be appreciated.  I'm trying to attach a simple Cross Dissolve transition to the splits.  I can't attach one to the right of the split, but not centered.  Any help I can get, would be appreciated.(edit)I've managed to find a work around to the problem I'm having.  Apparently, the clips that I have split, were over lapping a bit.  that's why I couldn't attach an effect to the clip.  Still couldn't center the effect

I'm trying to learn my new Premiere Elements 9. I am a simple man, with simple needs. I like to just do a simple fade transition between video clips. There is no "fade" option on the transitions for PE9, I have tried "cross disolve" and "non-additive disolve", and they are freaking wierd. The one that comes the closest is cross-dissolve, It fades out the first clip fine, but the follow on clip starts with an awkward momentary freeze frame, which is not acceptable.Any thoughts?Clem

MJPEG (Motion JPEG) compression has been around for quite a while, but there has been a resurgence recently, when Nikon and a few others began shooting motion with their DSLR and other still cameras.Some systems have MJPEG CODEC’s installed already, and some NLE programs also include them with installation. Many camera mfgrs. will include one (often tweaked to their specs.) on their utilities disc. One might be installing it along with the driver for the camera, or perhaps with the installation of the utilities on that disc. The latter is becoming more popular with camera mfgrs., but a separate installation for the particular CODEC would be a better solution. That seems to be falling out of favor, amongst camera mfgrs. though.If one is getting the “Unsupported Format/CODEC” message, it could well be that their system does not have an MJPEG CODEC installed, or the version that they do have is not matched to the one used by their camera, or it could be that their NLE (Non Linear Editor)

I'm trying to export (into a file, ultimately to a disc) a one-minute extract of a 10-minute video in my timeline.  In earlier versions of PE i simply went to File>export and picked one of several options (movie etc).  In PE 10 (which I'm using on the Mac) the Export option is greyed out.Any idea how I can activate it?Thanks.

Hi,I experience very big file size difference rendering to avi or mp4.I always believed avi files would be smaller than mp4 my adobe premiere 10  gives other result. Am I doing something wrong here? And what are the pros and cons to avi or mp4?Thanks for replying,Koen

Ann Bens, on the CS4 forum, posted this LINK to a possible solution for working with MOD & TOD files. Might be of use, if you have a JVC (could work with some other, similar cameras) and want to work with these files in any flavor of Premiere. As I do not shoot to MOD, or TOD, I have not tried it, and cannot vouch for how well it works.Good luck,Hunt

Hi,I believe that I am getting closer to upgrading my video equipment.  A number of years ago when I was getting started, I had a smallexposure to Adobe Premiere 5.5.  Adobe Premiere 6 came out shortley after.  I was about to learn iMovie at the time, andhad been told that if I learn imovie, I will have to unlearn things when I go to a more powerful program.  I was also told that I will reachthe limits of iMovie and will want to upgrade anyway.  Also, I was told that I will find that I may find that something that took 10 minutes to ddo in iMovie may only take a minute in a more powerful program.  Taking this advice, I bypassed iMovie and went to Adobe Premiere.  There was a bigger learning curve, but it was worth it to me.I actually decided to use Premiere after attending a Final Cut Pro Users group meeting in Los Angeles where someone from Adobehad come to demo it for the group.  Since I have been working in MiniDV since, combined with budget,

Well, at the very basic level, a CODEC is a “device,” that is most often a two-way conversion to either encode, or decode a data stream. Many people run low on System Resources, while editing. Often, this is because they have a lot of other programs and Processes loaded, running and sapping their Resources. Here is how I handle these programs and Processes, to get the most out of my computers.The first thing that I do, before I do any editing, is clean out my system, using MSCONFIG to eliminate all unnecessary programs and Processes at boot. These are things like MS Messenger, iTunes Helper, Bonjour Services (I do need this for one progarm on my laptop, so I keep it there), and the like. These are little things that are usually installed by the OS, other programs, or the folk, who build the machine. Unless subsequent installs add this sort of stuff back, this is a one-shot deal. I do this, when I take delivery of any new computer, and check carefully, should I install, or update anything.Next, I manually Exit from my AV, spyware sweepers and pop-up blockers. What is Windows Indexing, how do I use it, and why might it be getting in the way, when I am doing Video editing?Well, most versions of Windows has a feature, called Windows Indexing. This is a little application that roams your system, looking for files, that it can Index, so that Searches are quicker. For many computers, it causes no problems, as it goes about looking at your DOC, and TXT files, compiling indexes to speed up Searches, especially for content. When it’s working, it’s behind the scenes, and usually causes no problems. When a DOC or TXT file changes, or is created, it will Lock that file, while it searches through its content for future Searching.Now, when one is doing Video editing, they are working with some large files. Windows Indexing cannot glean anything from the AV files, or from the various working files, that an NLE (Non Linear Editor) creates, and updates constantly. I am helping a youth do a project in premiere elements. We are having computer trouble, and are needing to move the project to another computer. I am not sure how to do this, as there are lots of files. Is there a simple way to transport a project to another computer? Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. MKH

I shot a birthday video of the neighbors 5 year old with my Canon T2i camera.  Had to turn the camera on its side to get everything in the shot.  I can view the video right side up in the canon software but can not make the change permanent so the neighbor can watch it on his computer.  Can I rotate the video 90 degrees in premiere and make it permanent?  If not, where do I go?ThanksCliff chitch7@yahoo.com

I will confine my editorializing to "Deja vu, all over again" and describe the Premiere Elements 9 problem that sounds like I was reliving the release of Premiere Elements 8.I downloaded and installed Premiere Elements 9 tryout, and it worked great for about 7 days. With no changes in the computer environment, suddenly when Premiere Elements 9 was loading a new project, it would stop at PlayerMediaCore.prm and pop up a message:"We have detected an incompatible driver. To get a better and faster playback performance, please update your display driver. Display driver details: NVIDIA Corporation GeForce....." and it went on to fully name my video card driver. When I clicked on OK, the program continued to load completely and opened to the workspace where the Edit Mode Monitor performance was, best described as, wacky....Timeline content that would not present in the Edit Mode Monitor, Preview Windows that froze in the Edit Mode Monitor, etc. And, Edit Mode Full Screen Previews did not wor

It is based on PrPro CS4, but much will apply directly to PrE.While Premiere can down-rez HD to SD, the results are not the best. I'm having a bit of a problem getting my mts/avchd files to work with PE9. I imported the files using the organiser, and they play fine (video AND audio) from the organiser, but when I import the clips into PE9, only video is imported. There's no audio track and (logically?) no audio to be heard. How do I fix this?Mind, these .mts files play fine in both the organiser AND windows 7. They're created on a Canon HF100 camcorder.
