Editing Multicam - 4K footage in 1080 sequence (getting Preview Monitor to match)

I'm just entering the wonderful world of 4K video and working on my first 2-cam mulitcam edit.

As the final product is going to be 1080, I'm editing it in a 1080 sequence (shot 4K because it gives me the flexibility of adjusting the scale to tighten the closeup a touch and the full-stage wide shot as much as looks good as I need a full stage static archive and edited scenes).

Having a bit of a problem and not sure how or where to fix it.

I've created Multi-cam source sequence without a problem. Put it in a 1080 sequence and set it to Frame Size. Scale is 50. So have room to 'grow'

Problem I'm having is that in trying to edit the sequence, the Multi-Camera View panel shows the current 'choice' perfectly, but the two thumbnails of the 'source' footage are not the full image - it's the 4K with a 1080 'chunk' taken out of the center, which makes it hard to edit as I can't easily tell what I'm looking at, when an actor goes out of closeup camera and I need to switch to long shot, etc.

I've tried opening the source multicam clip into a timeline and changing that sequence to 1080, and while that makes the preview images uniform and correct in the Multi-camera View Panel, the scale is 100 so it defeats the whole 'shoot in 4k/edit in 1080 for flexibility' thing.

I'm guessing (hoping?) there's something obvious setting wise or nesting wise or something that is eluding me at the moment, and that someone will have the answer and make me go 'duh!'

Here's my 4K > HD workflow in case this helps anyone

1/ Make HD Multi-cam clips, not 4K. Do this by changing the sequence preset in the Create Multi-Cam Sequence panel. *Make sure your preset is set to multichannel audio.

2/ Open each multi-cam clip and set all the clips inside to Set To Frame Size. I haven't found a way to automate this unfortuntately.

Now you can edit with your multi-cam clips and they'll look correct in the Multi-Cam Preview Monitor. When you've finished the edit, flatten the multi-cam clips and the scale will return to 4K quality - ie. 100% will become 46.9% without messing up any reframing/keyframing.

Hi, I have the same problem. So, my big crutch... I use a 1920*1080 proxy, I love h264 in QT, it supports more tracks by sound. We created MC based on the original footage, created Proxy. IMPORTANT: FPS , video length and name must match! Inside the MC, check the box for all videos, scale to the frame size. (It seems to me that the icon picks up the size of the source.) Next media offline and link proxy media. Done! When you finish editing, use media offline again and link the original footage. Now go to MC inside and off command "scale to frame size". Right-clik-multicam-flatten,(in seq1080) and sent to colorcorrection. Notes - I work with UltraHD for all cam. Sorry my English level is A1. Good luck

this is still happening in 23.1.0 -- not super useful if I can't see the whole shot in the multi-camera viewer. is there a fix or workaround yet??

(he says while spending yet another couple of hours putting in plug ins one...by...one...because updating Premiere Pro has yet again made some of them not showing up so have to remove and drag them back into Mediacore individually...and restart...and do another...and restart...and...and...)

Hi there... The 2019 version 13.0.0 and 13.0.1 seem to have program monitor display issues. I have not exactly had your issue but exact same situation (4k to 1080 and multicam) and the program monitor seems to not display correctly, not syncing with timeline movement, or program monitor freezing while scrubbing and yes issues with the Multi-Camera View windows not showing the correct info/stream.  I have even had it play with no way of stopping it except to do a ctrl+s to force a save/stop. I do NOT have these issues with any version of 12.  I think 13.0.2 is needed lol
