P: Keyboard shortcuts are lost and not retained in 23.4

As of this morning when upgrading to 23.4 I am experiencing issues with keyboard shortcuts. Many of my existing keyboard shortcuts are gone, and when I add them back in, then restart Premiere they disappear again. No rhyme or reason as to which ones, as some keyboard shortcuts are still working perfectly fine.

This seems to only affect modified shortcut keys.

A temporary solution is to lock your KYS file, however this is not a good solution as it prevents you from making new shortcuts if you forget you locked the file.

This is also creating issues with the Excalibur plugin, and I've notified the developers of that as well.

This issue is fixed in 23.5 which is available now.  Please update to get the fix.

The entire editor is empty. Regardless of what I do... switching versions, restoring factory settings and such, nothing really happens.

Can you send a screenshot of the KB-Shortcut screen. I've not had this problem since the one version that had it.

As a side note: I do backup my keyboard shorts for PP, AE and AI regularly. We just had a switch to 2024 (today for me) and PP imported my 2023 KBshorts and all is well.

As the user above me states, this problem has come back. I can't really believe how such a thing could happen, but for me, it isn't very nice. I'm a University Student and probably going to miss my deadline because of this as there is almost no way of working like this.

What a disaster. I'm going to be late on a huge project because many months later, while Adobe claimed to have fixed this problem, it has returned. Can't even selection in and out of source clips with shortcuts anymore. Reinstalled with zero luck.

The paste insert no longer works as "control + shift + V"

I tried to manually add it and it didn't let me. Weird

"If you ever loaded your custom keyboard shortcuts in 23.4, your shortcuts are removed and reset to the default. Updating to 23.5 will not restore them, unfortunately. You need to restore the KYS file from a backup if you have one or redo your custom keyboard settings."

Francis Crossman,

This is EXACTLY the kind of information that should be posted in "Known Issues" for 23.4.

When a user is consdering whether to install 23.4 they want to know the problems it will create, and the workarounds that are known - rather than finding out the hard way after the fact. "Known Issues" should be the comprehensive resource for that.

I suggest updating this.

In 23.5, we fixed the bug that removes your custom keyboard shortcuts.  If you ever loaded your custom keyboard shortcuts in 23.4, your shortcuts are removed and reset to the default.  Updating to 23.5 will not restore them, unfortunately.  You need to restore the KYS file from a backup if you have one or redo your custom keyboard settings.  Going forward they will be remembered.  I fully acknowledge that this is far from ideal, and I apologize to everyone who has been affected.

Check you keyboard assignments, perhaps it got changed at some point, as Alt+Up Arrow is the default for moving clips up a track.
