Premiere 23.1 crashes opening project files

Just updated today to the latest Premiere Pro 23.1 and now it doesn't open ANY of my project files, crashing during the process approximately 60-70% in judging by the progress bar. It is either crashes, or simply freezes (the progra, is supposedly working but does nothing) and doesn't open it. WTF is going on and how can I fix it (aside of rolling back version 23, of course, which I will do right now cause I have work to do, but seriously, what a mess!).

Have removed all third-party plugins. Installed version 23.2 and then installed the latest versions of my plug-ins back one by one checking if the file is still loading. It seems like the culprit was Red Giant Universe, which is not surprising, cause their coders seems to be worse then the Indian ones - such a bad piece of software for such enourmous price! Anyway, FOR NOW it seems I have solved the problem, thanks to Gabriel. Will see if it will stay this way 😆

Neil,

I did all of your suggestions and... nothing happened. The problem is still there. Please don't suggest me to buy a new PC and install Premiere pro 23.2 there for the old files to work. I need a fix or a working workaround, PLEASE HELP!

Sorry, that would be dangnably annoying ... but totally puzzled about this behavior.

At this point, personally, I would uninstall Pr, reboot the computer, and reinstall it. If that didn't work, use the Adobe CC Cleaner tool to do a complete removal of Pr from the computer, then reboot & reinstall.

So, I have waited almost 3 months till version 23.2 and the problem is STILL THERE! I can not open my project files from the version 23.0. Symptoms are the same - Premiere either crashes or "freezes" loading file at about 75%. So now I am forced to roll back to version 23 again to continue working. Guys, this is unacceptable, really. I am paying for subscription to be on the last versions of everything, not to stuck with version 23 without possibility to open my files in newest versions. PLEASE FIX IT! or find workaround. I am not going to start all of my projects anew just to be able to open the files in version 23.2 or the next ones!

Same here. On friday everything worked fine. On monday premiere pro 23.1 crashes everytime when i want to open the project. Funny thing: I openend another project and then the one which brought premiere pro to crash. And now it works.

I don`t know what is going on. I have a new Pc optimised for editing/13700k/gigabyte aero z790/128gb RAM/ssds/win 11. Everything should work fine. But i have more problems than with my old system. :-((((((((((

Indeed some new versions of Premiere offer you to convert your project files from older version to the new format, but as I understand - the changes in Premiere should be significant for it to offer it. Like swith from version 22 to 23. Or from 19 to 23. If it is incremental update, like 23->23.1 - there is no significant changes to software to offer you this option cause versions from 23 should work normally. And for many I am sure they do, but nor for "lucky few" like us 😞

To throw insult to injury; Currently rolled back to v23.0 I opened some older projects from last year to remember how I achieved some results. I got a notification along the lines of "This project was built in a previous version of Premiere" and offered conversion to the v23 project format. Offer accepted and re-saved.
WHY CAN'T v23.1 DO THIS FOR A 23.0 FILE?
Yes I'm very 'cheesed off', I'm paying for updates that are going to lose my templates and work history! I have a goldfish memory thanks to a brain injury, and saved 'reminders' to copy from.

You could try checking out the latest public betas to see if there's been any progress on your issues.

Update about the state of fixing this problem would be nice, but I doubt that we will get it here. Most probably will just need to try version 23.2 or whatever is the next update to see if our projects will open correctly in it.

I've been back on v.23 with auto updates disabled since my last comment. Will we be notified when support for 2022/23.0 files is back in order? I've got loads of templates like animated logos and closing credits that I saved earlier in the year, which are out of use in the updates.

I've been suffering the same failure to open projects for the last couple of days (presumably since 23.1). Yesterday I just rebooted and it opened successfully, today it's refusing. I'm going to try a rollback, but how about a Christmas discount for your buggy updates?
