Premiere 23.1 crashes opening project files

Just updated today to the latest Premiere Pro 23.1 and now it doesn't open ANY of my project files, crashing during the process approximately 60-70% in judging by the progress bar. It is either crashes, or simply freezes (the progra, is supposedly working but does nothing) and doesn't open it. WTF is going on and how can I fix it (aside of rolling back version 23, of course, which I will do right now cause I have work to do, but seriously, what a mess!).

Correct answer Serega_M

Have removed all third-party plugins. Installed version 23.2 and then installed the latest versions of my plug-ins back one by one checking if the file is still loading. It seems like the culprit was Red Giant Universe, which is not surprising, cause their coders seems to be worse then the Indian ones - such a bad piece of software for such enourmous price! Anyway, FOR NOW it seems I have solved the problem, thanks to Gabriel. Will see if it will stay this way 😆

I am on version 23 right now, of course, cause I edit constantly. But as I'd like to be on latest version of everything, I will wait for you to tell me that the problem is fixed so I will upgrade to see if this is the case. To create a new project with all the assets just to be able to work in 23.1 is not the solution to my problem I would like to hear from you, man 🙂

Hey Serega,

Bummer! Sorry, man.

Maybe reverting to an earlier version and completing the work is a good idea. Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin

Creating a new project and work with it is not the problem. It can be done with version 23.1. What it can not do right now is to open my old projects 🙂

Hi Serega,

Sorry about that. Thanks for the extensive video. I can understand your predicament better now. I suspect that the issue is Premiere Pro and a current bug some are experiencing. I have alerted the devs to your bug report.

Troubleshooting: Try creating a brand new project with an English title and Save it to your desktop in an English-named folder. See if it functions better. If so, you may hit a larger issue and need to roll back versions or use a workaround.

I hope we can help you keep working.

Thanks,
Kevin

Yo, Kevin, thanks for all of your suggestions, but unfortunately nothing works 🙂 I have installed nVidia drivers of 517.40 version and the problem is STILL THE SAME 🙂 I made a video to show you how it is in my system, it is 21 minutes long, just skip the part when I am reinstalling Premiere 23 and opening it for the first time cause it scans audio plugins for like 4 minutes. Just watch the parts where I talk and show you what is going in. I am convinced that the problem lies NOT in Nvidia drivers but in Adobe software itself. Where exactly, I have no idea as I am not a software engineer, but the fact is that with the latest Nvidia drivers version 23 works perfectly, and version 23.1 does not open the project files or crash. Please ask somebody to look at this issue and make a fix or workaround, cause I am sure that I am not the only one with this stupid problem!

Hi,

In addition to a potential issue with your drivers, I tried opening your project file and was able to. It took a while, so I suspect your project file is getting too large and unruly. I understand the need to have all your sources available to create. You should consider the "Productions" feature, which allows you to divide larger projects into multiple "sub-projects." Like, all of your large bins become projects that can remain closed but connected, so you can access the sources you need only when you need them. This keeps your main project leaner, functioning much better, opening more quickly, etc. I hope the advice helps. I have a similar project that I made a Production with and things are going much better.

Thanks,
Kevin

How can I download 517.xx drivers? In Geforce Excperience it only let me download latest studio driver, unlike Adobe software where you can choose what version of oftware you want to install. And on their website the situation is the same, they offer only latest drivers.

Dear Serega,

Sorry. The current NVIDIA drivers are known to be problematic with Premiere Pro. Try a clean reinstallation of the 517. xx studio drivers, and let us know if that works for you.

Thanks,
Kevin

Ok, here it is:

Issue - Premiere Pro 23.1 doesn't open (freezes) or crashes opening project files (60-70% in judging by the progress bar).

Adobe Premiere Pro version number: the very latest, 23.1

Operating system - latest Windows 11 Pro 22H2, OS build 22621.900

System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:

CPU AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

GPU NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090, Driver Version 527.56

RAM - 64,0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @ 1330MHz (20-19-19-43)

Hard Drive 9314GB TOSHIBA HDWR11A (SATA )

Video format: 4K MPEG4 files mostly, but the problem is not with them 🙂

Workflow details: Normal project, video, graphics and audio.

Steps to reproduce - Easy, just try to open it - it doesn't or crashes 😆

Expected result - Expect to open it normally and work hard 😆

Actual result - have reverted back to version 23 and it is working as expected.

Here is the project file, which is working fine in version 23, but crashes in 23.1 : https://disk.yandex.ru/d/6Nk1H_3T-aqSTw
