Issue

Premiere Pro 26.0 fails to transcribe audible dialogue and displays “No dialogue found” when using MP4 files downloaded from YouTube via a third-party downloader. Audio plays normally, is clearly audible, and is properly assigned as Dialogue.

The issue affects all projects, including newly created projects.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Adobe Premiere Pro 26.0.

  2. Create a new project.

  3. Import an MP4 video downloaded from YouTube using a third-party downloader.

  4. Drag the clip into a sequence.

  5. Confirm:

    • Audio is clearly audible during playback

    • Waveforms are visible

    • Audio meters are active

    • Audio is not muted

  6. Assign the clip in Essential Sound → Dialogue.

  7. Open Text → Transcript panel.

  8. Click Transcribe Sequence.

Expected Result

Premiere Pro should detect spoken dialogue and generate a transcript.

Actual Result

The Transcript panel displays:

“No dialogue found. To enable transcription services, your audio must contain unmuted verbal dialogue.”

This occurs even though:

  • Dialogue is clearly audible

  • Audio meters are moving

  • Waveforms are visible

  • Clip is properly tagged as Dialogue

  • Enhance Speech functions normally

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Version

    26.0

    Operating System

    Windows 11 (64-bit)

    GPU Driver Version (Windows Only)

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU
    Driver Version: 32.0.15.9174

    Video Format

  • Container: MP4

  • Video Codec: H.264

  • Comparative Information

  • ✅ Affects all projects

  • ✅ Affects new projects

  • ✅ Occurs consistently with similar downloaded MP4 files

  • ❌ Does not resolve after restarting Premiere or clearing transcript

  • ✅ Transcription works after converting audio to mono or rendering/replacing as WAV

  •
  • Audio Codec: AAC (stereo)

  • Source: YouTube (downloaded via third-party downloader)

  • Resolution: 1080p

  • Frame Rate: 30 fps

I also have had this issue on the latest version. It works fine for my coworker who uses a Mac but for my Windows system it will not work. I have tried about every workaround there is.

Edit: Going down to Version 26.0.1 worked for me!

Version 26.2.2 currently having this issue. I was having this issue prior and saw an update waiting...so I updated hoping to fix this, and I am only now seeing this forum. Does anyone have a hard fix?

    @nehemiah_7530,

Thanks for reporting. Rolling back to 26.0.1 is the best workaround for now - let us know if that works for you.

I ended up installing 25 and importing the XML into the old version. Then I Transcribed and exported the captions as an SRT finally importing the SRT in the new project. I just needed to get it done. I might try going back to 26.0.1 when I have some time.

    All,

When Sumeet says “investigating a similar issue & have made improvements in the latest Beta,” that means 2 things to me. 1) Staff have probably been unable to replicate the issue. 2) They have fixes for other transcription/text editing issues in the Beta version, which might have fixed the problem. That makes Sumeet’s request for users who are affected to consider testing in the Beta very important. If the problem is present, then they can focus replication attempts there, which is where they must fix the problem anyway. If the problem is not present, that will emphasize the importance of trying to get “similar issue” fixes in the next release version rather than one farther down the line. And no, I have no idea when/what that means, except that the current release is 26.2.2, and the Beta jumped from 26.3 to 26.5.

For the few of you who reported that the Beta version showed the problem, this is as easy as updating the Beta and giving it a go. (@bonebj, @Visuales_FVST, @wombatant111) See my cautions below regarding updating the Beta. For those of you who do not have the Beta installed, you can install it independently from your production/release version(s). You can reset its preferences without affecting your release version.

The link Sumeet provides is to the “Adobe Creative Cloud Beta FAQ.” It provides important information, particularly if you have not used an Adobe beta version previously. Here's the link again:

    https://helpx.adobe.com/in/x-productkb/global/creative-cloud-beta.html

But I’d like to emphasize or clarify some things, and add a few others.

Here, we are testing for a bug. And sometimes, the problem will persist to a new version via preferences or the media cache. So it is important to do what I always do when updating the Beta: hold down the shift key when you first launch it and Reset preferences, Clear the cache, and Reset the plugin loading cache. Also, create a NEW project for testing.

I do not recommend using the Beta version for deadline-sensitive work, but many users use it successfully. The recommendation here is to install it for testing, not to move your project there for your regular work. As new builds are released (usually every day), there are regular bugs, some of which make the version unusable until the next build, or less commonly, more than one build.

Because the build is changing frequently, it is very important to report the build with the version. It is not enough to say “the latest,” to give the date you updated, or to just give the version (currently 26.5.0). Report the version with the build number: so I currently have PR Beta 26.5.0 Build 3 installed. Today, I see that the latest is Build 15. In the cloud desktop, it shows the date as 5/27/26. But in the PR Beta using Help -> About Premiere, it will only show the Build. So I prefer reporting the build number, not the date.

You can only install the latest version of the Beta, and cannot roll back to a previous version. I sometimes create a clone of my system drive if I have an important need to roll back.

Be certain that you have auto-update turned OFF. In the Creative Cloud Desktop, click on your avatar/account -> Preferences -> Apps. You'll see Auto-update.

When you open the Beta and there is a new build of the Beta, an invitation to update appears. Do NOT click on it. As I said, you cannot roll back and may discover stop-your-work-dead-in-its-tracks bugs.

Yes, this is a huge issue for my team currently!

I’m working my way through previous version to try and get this function to work again as it’s causing major delays in editing...

    @phebe_0463,

Let us know what version you land on. For some users with this issue, 26.0.1 works.

If you are able to test in the Beta, be sure to mention the build you test.

    Hi everyone,

We’re investigating a similar issue & have made improvements in the latest Beta. Would you mind trying the latest Beta version to see if it’s working properly? You may refer to this link to learn more about the Creative Cloud Beta Program.

    Thanks,

    @grace_6255,

Thanks for reported the details. That is helpful to engineering tracking down this bug.

Save your hair; roll back to 26.0.1 is working for several users. No better workaround yet.

    All,

So far, 2 users have reported that rolling back to 26.0.1 works for them. And 2 users were using 26.0.2 when they reported it was not working.

Staff are actively working on this, and now is a good time to provide specific information if you did not in your initial report. I don’t think they have replicated it yet. The following information is useful:

OS, basic hardware (including graphics/driver version), version(s) that work/don’t work for you, type of files you have tested.

I’m getting the same issue. I hope Adobe prioritise this, as it’s preventing me from completing a lot of projects.

I got phone  help from Adobe. It failed and they confirmed there is a bug fault that should be rectified with update  at some future date
