Question

Premiere Pro CC 2018 won't import footage...

I'm trying to import footage through Media Browser and the program freezes half way through importing the file.  Also, the files take a very long time to show up in the Media Browser window.  Suggestions?

I have the same problem as well on occasions. When it happens after I close it with the Task Manager is simply by dragging the file into the bin vs importing through the Media Browser or from the import function. At the end of the day I shouldn't have to be doing this...

Using CC2018, files are 3840x2160 Photo - JPEG, AAC

These files worked fine on  CC2017 on same machine and work on my MBP using 2017.

Really need an answer please. Thanks. Seeing the beachball of death and crashing without being able to work. No bueno.

// sorry to digress from subject.

Have you tried opening and saving the image files again in another editor..?

Sometimes this helps fix exif data or whatever the problem is that means it's borked.

Gotta do it sometimes with jpg's that "don't work" but chucking them into paint and saving as a copy (or overwrite) seems to do the trick.

I have been suffering the same thing.

I have fixed it.

For me, importing short video files (few mins) mpeg was no problem.
Some reason, longer ones (20mins, eg) would throw error and crash programme.

Could watch video in external player and also save in non-adobe video programme (crash also in AE for these files), but it was no good to use (esp. for certain gamma/brightness tweaks for consistency with other clips).

To fix the crashes, I simply renamed the .mp4 to .avi.

After this, it imports correctly into both AE and Premiere.
The full video, exactly the same, no changes, same length, same size, same everything - just not an mp4 extension...

However, if I still have the offending .mp4 and navigate using media browser - it will crash as soon as it sees it.
Therefore, renaming the file to name.avi and drag-drop appears to be the work-around for me.

Things have not been right since Win10 update, Nividia driver updates and now Adobe updates.

Perhaps this workaround will help you.

Fascinating fix there ... huh. Thanks for posting, and I hope this can help some others get work out!

Yea, hope this whatever gets fixed.

There appear to be issues with Media Encoder and After Effects also.

eg, I want a quicker gif or to export using preset not available in AE.
(incidentally - had to reinstall quicktime to get AE to accept gifs again - I make stop motion and gif is easiest for display on web for preview and PS frame batch actions for "handmade" effects rather than super-clean, freshly shaved and smooth vector / AE effects - oh and spout for projection and lensfeed plugins)

If I queue AE to encode a comp. then choose to use AME - AME will sit there waiting, doing nothing til process is killed.

Have to remove all AE internal encode list and export each individually to AME (which is now retaining Premiere presets, thankfully).

Few bugs to iron out, it seems.

Always a way around - new Nvidia drivers and Windows10 updates have messed a lot with colour profiles in updated PS (and older game engines, such as IdTech or Dunia).

Cannot figure out why Adobe suite cannot parse these fully functional (armed and operational) mp4's, yet accepts same files with merely an extension change. Although this does remove the thumbnail preview.

Biggest gripe is the new file icon appearance for adobe
Don't match anything else.

Having the same problems, in the middle of a project I've been working on for months, Premiere Pro CC 2018 arrived uninvited and now when I try to import a simple video clip from my harddrive it goes to the wheel of death.  Is Adobe ever going to fix this with an update?

First, you had to click on the install thing.

Next, if you would give a screen grab or two of your importing process, some info on the media and the drive it's on, we could probably get you working.

And that would be good.

Neil, I'm not at the computer and you wouldn't see anything unless it did

it and then it would just be the blue wheel. I don't have a hour to try to

get it to fail. It's pretty simple, when on my editing desktop, I click

file, import, and the blue wheel starts up and doesn't stop. It doesn't do

it every time, just sometimes, and it locks up the computer and I have to

go Control-Alt-Delete and end the task and restart the computer. Today for

the first time I let the wheel turn for about 15 minutes when a phone call

came it, and it suddenly went into import on it's own. This all started

after Premiere Pro 2018 installed itself.

I had the same problem and i found a solution (sort of). For me, it was the video format. I was importing .MTS and .MP4, and I kept having the same import problems and was wondering WTF!!? Because Ive used those video formats all the time in the past with Premiere, but when I left out the .MTS files...everything imported smoothly. So check your files types and transcode what you need to. I will say that this isn't really a solution for me personally because Premiere should be able to handle .MTS  just fine, so for now I'm going back to 2017 until Adobe fixes this, because from my point of view, this new 2018 version has some bugs as far as importing certain file types go...and this is AFTER a guy from Tech Support updated my read/write permissions and software preferences.

It crashes on launch sometimes. It can’t see and therefore import .MP4 files. It can’t find files that live with the project file; I have to try to find them and it can’t see them.

As a workaround, I offline’d everything. Since I’ve only used it for around an hour yesterday, I’m sure I’ll find more issues.

The prior version had an issue with morph edit and would corrupt finished files, the new titler crashed the program every time. I was forced to use legacy titler (I know Adobe declared that bug fixed…it was not). I hope you have fixed those bugs.

I love Premiere, but the bugs associated with this product are show-stoppers. I’ve lost hours/weeks of work because of this product.

Final Cut Pro is a more stable product but not as robust as Premiere could be if fixed.

Same question. 2017 SOMETIMES sees files that I have used to build existing movies. Now, I can't import my assets, PP crashes a lot. I was having corruption issues with 2017 MP4's should import fine. FIX PLEASE I'M ON DEADLINE

Importing assets to Premiere using explorer as opposed to media browser. For me I can't even import audio files without experiencing a freeze up and having to restart premiere which is not a good thing. Please resolve since this was not happening with the prior version.

What kind of footage are you working with, Eric?  I wonder if the following is an issue?
