Premiere Pro Crashes When I Try To Access Settings into a PC Windows 10

Hello and happy new year to the group. For some time now all my versions of Premiere Pro CC have been crashing when I go into Settings. Whatever choice I make from the settings menu the program stops and exits. I tried reinstalling version 23..... which I had uninstalled a few months ago but this also has the same problem. Only my old 32-bit CS5.5 does not have this problem. I tried manually cleaning the cache by deleting all the files but nothing changes. Since the last time I used the Preferences I have not changed anything in the hardware of the Windows 10 PC which I update regularly. The Preferences in Media Encoder however do not present any problems. The preferences generate the crash even if selected from the initial window, the one from which you then choose whether to open an existing project. I also tried resetting the settings and the plugin cache at startup but nothing, if I click on one of the submenus of Preferences Premiere closes. All the other menus and submenus work regularly.

Correct answer Sergio Fucchi

Problem solved! I renamed the \Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins folder to something else and no longer had problems accessing Settings on all versions of Premiere Pro CC.

Great Sergio, you just confirmed: 'things change'. Thanks. 🙂

I'm glad you found the problem on your machine.

I'm glad you solved it. So, it turns out it was something on your computer. Better to figure it out sooner rather than later.

Cheers.

Yes, but this folder had existed in my computer for several years and had
never caused conflicts with versions of Premiere Pro until two months
ago......

Or was being blocked by something unexpected.

Did you update your nvidia driver to the latest STUDIO version?

Are you running OneDrive?

Can you start PP with the shift key down, and select as many checkboxes as you like.

That's what I've got.

Yet I think I have been very clear in what I have written so far, but despite this I see that I can not make myself understood. I will try again. I am not the type to play, I do not install programs for fun and above all I only install original and paid software. My hardware configuration has been the same for 5 years and the installed software has been the same for at least 3 years. The only thing I do is update them to the most recent versions as they are made available by the manufacturers. As I do with Adobe products. So if Premiere Pro has never given me problems, if the Settings have always worked well until two months ago, if this malfunction began after updating Premiere I deduce that it is precisely this update that is the cause and certainly not some other software. It could be that until that moment Premiere did not have strange conflicts with other software and that then with the update of the code and libraries conflicts arose, it could be so but then, considering that this seems to be a fairly widespread problem, why not start from the Premiere code and see in which cases the software crashes when you click on the Settings? Knowing the possible or probable causes can help you find a solution more effectively instead of trying at random. For example, a little while ago, with version 25.1 I noticed that after clicking on the General item in the Settings menu, for a few seconds the mouse pointer showed the hourglass, a sign that Premiere was perhaps looking for something that it didn't find and then crashed.

Well Serg, installing the new software doesn't affect the previous version which you are also having problems with. Look around the forum here. You don't see this issue as a recent problem. And when it was hitting, it was a 3rd party program that was the cause. I know it's easier, if someone says, hey it's an adobe thing. But in your case in particular, you must look at your machine and see what is causing it. All the best mate.

@MyerPj
I can't understand why you can't understand that my problem is with both the most recent version, 25.1, and with version 23.6.8 that I use to acquire video from a miniDV camera, and with version 24.6.4. Up until now none of you super experts have been able to explain and propose valid solutions to solve this problem that many users like me are having but only after updating their versions a few months ago. My Adobe plan started in 2018 and I have always updated to the most recent versions while also keeping the two previous ones and up until two months ago all the installed versions had no problems with the Settings. Then suddenly, after an update, I can no longer change the settings and this is because of the software!

Now you know the kind of thing on your specific machine that could possibly cause this. Why are you staying with the older versions?

Hey @Sergio Fucchi, but we're not trying to get you running on those.

There has been some other reports of this, search the forum if you can. One thread had something called 'Tourbox' and it ended up being the problem, so it's odd things like that.
