Scaling issue on timeline in Premiere Pro

I am running Premiere Pro 25.2.3 (build 4).

After Importing the clips in the project window things go like this:

- I am working on a 1080p vertical timeline

- I am dragging the 4k vertical clips to it (10-12 clips all at the same time)

- I have Premiere pro set to "Fit to frame"

I click on Keep existing settings when asked about the resolution mismatch so basicly all clips should be at a 50% scale automatically being that i use 4k footage on a 1080p timeline.

The bug I am noticing (and it used to work propely): every other clip is very zoomed it (to 100%). So one clip is at 50% as it should, the next is at 100%, the next one is at 50%, the next one is at 100%. All the clips are shot on the same camera, same settings, it's 100% a Premiere Pro bug because I worked like this a lot.

I just wanted to share this hoping it will be fixed because it takes me extra time in order to fix the scaling of a lot of clips each day.

I am experiencing the same bug - I have trashed my profile settings and project to start over, set default media scaling to 'fit to frame.' I re imported media and drag ~20 1280 clips into a 1920 timeline, I click on Keep existing settings, every third clip is NOT zoomed in. So the effect controls as I click through the timline looks like this: Scale %150, %100, %100, %150, %100, %100, %150.

This issue appears with the same pattern with other mixed frame sizes. I am editing archival video so daling with lots of different frame sizes.

NOTE this is not an issue for still images and importantly it is not an issue when dragging (with a mouse) clips from the project panel to the timeline individually, or from source to the timeline individually or via an overwrite button. But it happens EVERY time two or more clips are dragged from the project panel to the timeline. It also happens when selecting any number of clips in project pannel > 'new sequence from clip'

This is a rather obnoxious bug for anyone doing a very common editing move of creating timelines from selected clips. I'm building a large archival project database utalizing productions so hoping this will "fix itself"
For now the work around is to lay everything in the timeline, lasso R-click > Fit to Frame. But that was not necessary in PP 2024. But what can I do about this bug?

Specs: Apple M2 Mac, OS 14.7.6, PP 2025.1.0 - Productions.

Hi @Lex98A5,

Sorry, I meant it's not ideal that Premiere isn't working as expected. Can you please provide some more specific info so we can look into this more? Especially about media format and sequence settings. Please see: How do I write a bug report? I hope we can figure this out quickly.

I was working on a project in Premiere Pro (v 25.2) when out of nowhere I noticed the dimensions of half my clips had changed. Investigating further, I saw that also half of my rushes were affected and degraded from 4K resolution to full HD resolution. I'm trying to work out what happened, but I can't figure it out. Here are some more details:

My footage were 80% 4K-files, 20% Full HD-files. I set my sequence settings to full HD and then scaled the 4K clips to 50% so they were set to frame. Everything was fine, I was organizing my timeline, but halfway through, I noticed that all the clips that I had organized were still fine, but the ones I still had to go through were reduced to half the frame size. This only affected 4K clips, not the Full HD clips. I checked the properties of 1 of the clips and Premiere Pro interpreted it as Full HD instead of 4K. I did not get an error pop-up or the system did not crash, I don't think I hit any wrong buttons... But the bizarre thing is that I went to check the source files on my SSD and the affected clips were also degraded from 4K to Full HD. I believe the issue started from Premiere Pro, because the affected clips in my timeline were not in chronological order anymore and so on my SSD, the affected files are scattered throughout the folder.

I realise this might not be limited to a Premiere Pro issue, but I definitely need help figuring this out: what could have caused this, so I can prevent it from happening in the future and how can I fix it?

Hi,

Why is it not an ideal way to work? I have the benefit of being able to zoom or reframe. I don't think my issue is similar because I don't have nested clips and I am not working with multicam. I am only dragging 4k vertical clips to a 1080p vertical timeline, simple as that. They should all default to 50% scaling because premiere pro is set to "fit frame". I mean I've done this for years and it always worked. Since I updated to the latest version of Premiere Pro the first clip is at 50%, the second one at 100%, the next at 50% and so on. None of the videos are rotated or anything.

Thanks for the message. This is definitely not an ideal way to work. This sounds very similar to another user's issue. Are you using nests or multicam at all? Can you also confirm the footage was shot vertically and not rotated? Check out this post and let me know if it seems like what you're experiencing, just with a different aspect ratio.
