Stuck ... can't Import

I have been learning PP for a few years.  Suddenly, I cannot "capture" any files to a project. This started in the middle of editing a project after I added a JPG to it. After much messing around, I did the following:

1. Shot a GoPro Hero 7 Black clip @ 2.7k, 30 fps (MP4 file)

2. Shot a GoPro Hero 7 Black clip @ 2.7k, 60 fps (MP4 file)

3. Shot a Nikon D500 clip at native (mov file)

4. Loaded all onto computer that has worked in the past. Simply dragged and dropped into folder. Did not use GoPro Quik

5. Opened a new project in PP

6. Navigated to the folder with the three files and tried to drag them onto the timeline.  All failed.

I can upload the files if needed

What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to resent ALL PP settings to "factory original" and clear out whatever I screwed up?

No joy. I cleared the media cache and reset the PP preferences.  Both worked.

I then started a new project, used the ASSEMBLY tab and Media Browser to navigate to 3 clips stored on my internal SSD. I highlighted them, right-clicked and selected IMPORT.

When imported, I dragged each, singly, to the timeline.  The fist changes from a closed fist to a closed fist w/ a red circle-/ and the clip will not drop on the timeline.

When I try to look at the clip on the source monitor, it plays, but the timeline flashes green.

Any help?

Thank you

Capture is something you do with a tape camera.

All other is called import or ingesting.

Ingest via the Media Browse: Drag and drop is not the way to go.

Resetting Premiere to default settings: FAQ: How to reset (trash) preferences.

and while you are at it:

Thank you for the links to the FAQs.  I will try them.

Also, thank you for clarifying the technical difference between capture and ingest.

Can anyone suggest how to reset my PP installation so I can add clips to my timeline?
