Question

Different CSS for HTML 5 output and preview

Good evening all.

I wanted to know if there are a way to have 2 different CSS files, one used during authoring and one used during the output. I was looking at the output template , but the custom css used to overwite a class on output is not included in the head and overwitten by the css included in the head tags.

Thanks@

Calling topics is described on my site

As to designing topics doing that in RoboHelp is a bit like you have been given some paint brushes and paints. You have been given the tools but what you do with them is up to your choices.

Look at the help files in the software you use, look at sites like mine, then start setting up the CSS to give you the styles you want. If topics get too long, consider whether all users need all the content, maybe experts need less guidance so content for them can be put in dropdowns. On the other hand, maybe beginners need more so put that in dropdowns. Use tables to list features and put an explanation alongside.

I don't think there is anywhere that covers this in the way you want. There used to be books explaining each version of RoboHelp but they were out of date before the authors had made any money. They gave up producing them but anyway they were more like what I have on line, how to use the tool rather than how to design.

I missed a step. Select the Topic Layout in the preset. You don't need to apply it to the topics.

Thank you! do you have any insight for the below:

Additionally, I am having issues with importing from word and outputting to word document especially with bullets. Is there any extensive resource for me to fix this issue?

@christele15 - Peter's split your additional question out into its own topic - https://community.adobe.com/t5/robohelp-discussions/word-import-issue/m-p/14771343

You haven't said which version of RoboHelp you are using. Please always start a thread with this information.

    • Please go to Help > About and include the full version number.
    • If you are using 2019 also state whether it is 2019 Classic or 2019 New UI.

I have assumed you are using a new UI version.

    1. Create a Topic Layout and go to its Source View.
    2. In the Head section add the line below where the file name is your output css file.
      <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../assets/css/output.css" />
    3. In the template add that file to User Assets
    4. Generate your output.

Thank you very much and my biggest apologies. Our version is 2022.4.179 .

I have 1900 topics in project who will need to be updated to this topic layout and would like to know if there are anyway to do a bulk updates to those topics.

Additionally, I am having issues with importing from word and outputting to word document especially with bullets. Is there any extensive resource for me to fix this issue?

    Thank you!
