Most efficient way to configure layout of a new project (RH 2019, new UI)

Hi, Everyone.

I'm creating a new RH project (2019, new UI) and am looking for a way to "create a template" -- i.e., a page layout based on an existing RH project.

Here's what I have:

  • An MS Word document that I will import.
  • A CSS file I will pull into the new project.
  • A recently completed RH project, whose pages all share the same layout.
  • I want to recreate that page layout in a new RH project.

I want my new RH project to have the same page layout as my existing RH project. It seems there must be a way to achieve this without manually configuring each page.

I've tried using a Master Page for this. But unless I'm doing it wrong, the Master Page is of only limited help.

Any advice for me? Thank you!

Martin: I think you are missing an important point with master pages. Anything in the body section will be applied to a new topic if you associate the master page with the topic at the time you create the topic.

The body of the master page will then be applied to the new topic but then there is no further link. Change the master page or even delete and the body of your topics will not change.

I think that gives you what you want.

Karin and Peter, thank you. It works!

I don't know what I wasn't seeing before. But as described, creating a new topic and selecting my Master Page to be associated with the new topic does give me the two-column layout and the image placeholder. It even gives me the two headers styled the way I want b/c they are styled in the Master Page.

I'm all good! Than kyou, so very much.

Ah, okay, thanks for that, Peter.

I think that's what I needed. I'm gonna have to come back to this tomorrow, and I'll report back.

    Thank you!!

Thanks for that rundown of proper importing of the CSS & styles, Karin. That helps!

However, one thing the import doesn't cover is the layout of the page. For my purposes, what I'm needing is a way to lay out the page with a two-cell table in the body, with:

    • An image and an h1 heading in the header
    • An h2 header and normal text in the left cell
    • An image (with specific padding for proper alignment) in the right cell.

It would look like this in the output (screenshot):

I've tried using a Master Page for this. But that doesn't give me the two-cell table.

Plus, I'm wanting this for efficiency. It seems there must be a way to do this without manually configuring each page with the requirements I've listed above.

Does that make sense?  Thank you!

Ah, one more thing: after having matched all the styles etc., you can save the import settings and re-use them.

    Hi,

    you could try the following:

    - you need similar styles in the Word document and the css (the names must not necessarily be the same, but you must be able to match the styles)

    - ensure that your Word document is formatted nicely (meaning no inline styles, but different formating templates for different styles)

    - add your css to the project and define it as standard css in the project settings

    - right click in the contents panel and choose "import Word document"

    - after selecting the file, define, on which Word header level new topics shall be created

    -  match all styles used in the Word document to the styles in your css

    - import

Maybe you'll have to make some adjustments especially to list and table styles, but in general, this procedure should do the trick.

    Best regards
    Karin
