Printed Documentation keeps running

This problem just came up out of nowhere; Printed Documentation was working just fine last week (I'm using RoboHelp 2017), but today I tried to run PD for a project, and it just kept running ... and running ... and running ... for about 20 minutes, when it usually only takes about 3 or 4 min. I always generate a Word doc and a PDF with this process and have had no problems until now.

I'd appreciate any help.

Thank you,

Lon

The only security notice I'm aware of with Classic versions is to do with the Word's Trust Center > Macro Settings. You have to set that to allow all macros.

Oh, and you can also reset Word security after generating the document.

I don't think the notice I am thinking of gave you an option. What exactly did the notice say?

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. My IT Ops team recommended against allowing all macros, but I did discover that the MS Word Security Notice was "hiding" behind all the screens I had open (Outlook, IE, RH, etc.), and IT Ops suggested WindowsKey+Tab to show all screens in miniature so I could see and select the Security Notices screen and click "Yes" to continue processing.

Do you specify a word template in the Word output preset? If so, could you try opening the template for editing, make a small change like inserting a space, then save. (You can delete the space and save again.) Does it generate now?

No, I didn't specify a Word template; I'm using a CSS style sheet I developed in RH. Another thing I've noticed is that a Microsoft Word Security Notice has been popping up that I hadn't realized, as it appears behind all the other applications I have open (Outlook, IE, etc.).

We did try the uninstall/install process, but that seemed to have no effect. Also, since the process was producing a Word document (albeit without a ToC), I de-selected the PDF option in the PD screen. That helped yesterday, as the MS Word Security Notice appeared on top of the screen and I was able to select "Yes" to keep it going. Today, the Security Notice seems to be hiding again.

Is there some way to cancel that Notice from appearing? and why did it start showing up in the first place?

BTW: I really appreciate all the responses and attempts to help. Thanks, everyone!

No. The uninstall routine does not touch them. If in doubt, create backups.

It could. Make sure you apply updates afterwards,

If I do the uninstall/install, will anything happen to my current projects?

Those files get cleaned up if the process has worked correctly.

Try the About RoboHelp sample project to see what happens there. It may help identify if this is a project issue or a general issue.

Given it worked last week, I would look for any changes that have happened since then. What topics have you added since then? Stylesheet changes? Try excluding the new topics using condition tags to see if it generates. Reverse the stylesheet changes and see if it generates. If you have a backup from last week or earlier, get a copy and see if the backup generates correctly - that would indicate a problem with the changes you've made recently.

Or what about system changes such as windows updates, officer updates, or security changes by your IT team?

Actually, not just last week, but Saturday and Sunday as well. IT Ops didn't announce any changes, updates, etc.

No new topics, no style sheet changes.

Still happening today after my computer was shut off over night.

It does eventually generate a Word and a PDF, but both without Table of Contents.

I take that back: I just compiled a while ago, but no PDF.

in my !SSL! folder, I get:
    !doc_tmp_folder_0
    !doc_tmp_folder_1
    !doc_tmp_folder_2
    $StylePrepFile
    and my Word document

    Does that help?
