Troubleshooting RH publishing to Word

My technical issue: I have a large eBook manuscript of helping materials and exercises, built over the years in several versions of RH, now in the latest version. Over 300 pages, it has gotten a little “messy” in that when exported to latest (2021) Microsoft Word as a docx file, it looks fine but internally Word when opening the docx document displays: "This document contains fields that may refer to other files. Do you want to update the fields in this document?" Choosing "yes" or "no" doesn't seem to matter: same problematic result.

I can see inside the Word document that this may refer to a new chapter that I added a while ago in the RH source, now part of the published Word export. In this chapter there is a small side arrow: if clicked, it opens  additional chapters which appears then to be linked to this position in the Word document. These are in the right place if opened, but this arrow makes these a choice. I am not sure why this is happening but need some help to reconfigure the RH source for the Word document export so that it no longer creates this link to multiple chapters in the Word export.

I cannot see anything inside of the RH source that would be acusing this link in the Word docx file. I have tried a variety of fixes including deleting the RH chapter but I still get the Word dialog display anyway. I also tried without success to edit out the Word link without success. So, I wonder if there are additional debugging or troubleshooting tools in RH that I am not familiar with, to possibly find a solution?

Any suggestions appreciated.

    Correct answer Amebr

You need to include a Robohelp ToC file otherwise there will be no content in the output. What you want to remove is the Front Matter table of contents option from your RH TOC.

    Hi Amebr,

That worked to create the Word document without the original problem. No more pop-up dialog when opening the Word document.

    Thank you!

The dialogue is because you have included a TOC. Word itself is asking if you want to update the page numbers. There is nothing Adobe can do about this. I spoke to the engineers when the new UI was introduced.

The two options don't make a difference as the page numbers will not have changed since you created the document but Word does not know that.

The only solution is to not include a TOC.

    Thank you, Peter.

I'll try it without the TOC.

Are these things like Twisties or Drop Down text lines? I thought there was an output option to convert all those to plain text when generating the output.

Thank you, Jeff, for this quick reply. I don't believe there are any out-of-the ordinary lines or formattings in the spot in RH corresponding to the place where the arrow in the Word file appears. So, I am not sure what is generating this in RH that ends up in the Word docx?
