This is a complicated issue, which I hope can be clarified by this summary. With InDesign CS by itself, there are 66 fonts, many of which are new for the CS version. Apparently these are included with the educational version as well. This includes fonts from the Adobe Jenson Pro, Lithos Pro, Myriad Pro and Trajan Pro families. See here for a complete list: Thomas Phinney, "InDesign CS bundled OpenType fonts" #, 18 Oct 2003 12:26 am">Thomas Phinney "InDesign CS bundled OpenType fonts" 10/18/03 With Illustrator CS by itself, there are 102 fonts, about 31 of which do not overlap with the fonts bundled with InDesign CS. This includes fonts from the Chaparral Pro and Charlemagne Std families. See here for a complete list: Thomas Phinney "Illustrator CS bundled OpenType fonts" 10/18/03 The other CS apps do not individually add meaningfully to the bundled font count. However, with the Creative Suite as a package, there are up to 211 fonts: the 138 fonts included with the individual
Basically, I am having conflict issues with Berthold Akzidenz-Grotesk font. I have removed it from Suitcase and from the system folder on the Mac in OS 10.5.7. However it will still show up as being open in all Adobe programs. I guess it is installed somewhere within an Adobe program but I cannot find it. Any help would be appreciated.Scott
Hello, one of our designers was tasked with switching existing layouts and designs from using PostScript Type 1 fonts to OpenType fonts. To my surprise he reported a difference between the fonts. I have attached an image that clearly shows the difference:The ones on the left are the PostScript Type 1 versions of Gill Sans and Minion, the ones on the right are the OpenType versions of Gill Sans Std and Minion Pro. Aren't these supposed to be the same? It was my understanding thatOpenType fonts can contain the same outlines as the PostScript Type 1 fonts. Is there a recommended way of moving from PostScript Type 1 to OpenType?Thank you!
I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me what font is used in the attached logo. Thanks in advance!!
I'm trying to install an OpenType font in WinXP (Inconsolata). When I select the file in the font installation dialog, it just says "Unable to install the ... font. The font file may be damaged. Check with your vendor about obtaining a new file." I'm getting the .otf file from http://www.levien.com/type/myfonts/inconsolata.html. I've also tried http://moorstation.org/typoasis/designers/steffmann/samples/a/albert.htm with the same result. I've tried downloading the file (from Firefox) several times.

Is there a tool for editing multiple words in a paragraph at the same time? Example to add bold, italics, change the color or change the font to certain words in that particular paragraph?
Hi, I'm starting a course at University which has a typography element to it. I have been advised to buy the above mentioned software.I can see the software on the US version of the Adobe website, but not the UK version... Am I looking in the wrong place, and could anyone direct me please? Here is the link to the software on the US educational store:http://www.adobe.com/education/products/fontfolioeducationessentials/Thanks.
I understand you can use the same .otf files both on Mac and PC.1. Is this trouble free creating a document using these fonts on one platform and then opening the document on another platform and performing tasks with it... printing, creating PDF etc?2. Is there any difference using Quarkxpress and Indesign with Opentype fonts?3. If creating documents in Indesign and I need to convert these to Quarkxpress documents using a conversion plugin such as ID2Q is there any issues with these fonts. Thanks in advance for any help.Tim
I asked this on the Indesign board, and was sent here. I'm typesetting a fair bit of math, and my time would be cut in half if I can find an OT version that supports the alternative/nut fractions (with horizontal line). I've managed to find a few fonts that have them built in as glyphs, but none that make use of the afrc (alternative fractions) feature. However, I'm not sure if CS4 supports the afrc (alternative fractions) at all? I found this page from 2007, but it hasn't been updated...http://www.typotheque.com/fonts/opentype_feature_supportCan anyone fill me in?

Hey Everyone!I was in MS Word 2007 the other day when I found a perfect font for a title. Knowing that I'd want to use it in other formats, I opened up Photoshop & InDesign to create a larger version of it. However, Photoshop refuses to use the font (you select the font and it just disappears). I did a little research on the internet and found out that the font I'm trying to use, Gautami, is supposed to look like this:http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/font.aspx?FMID=1570However, I opened up the otf file and got this preview (which is what I'm looking for!)Here it is in MS Word:And now in Photoshop:Can anybody tell me why this is happening? Did my fonts get switched up somehow? I'm dying to use the font as seen in the Word document 😕😕Thanks a lot for your time!
has any one seen some good examples of "change of address" cards or flyers?its for a job for a local telephone franchise.any tips greatfully accepted. Im thinking that a map is a good idea.
I've tried running a few fonts through TTX and back and have noticed a few puzzling changes:(1) All the glyph bounding boxes get recalculated, often to 15% to 25% smaller than original.(2) The numberOfHMetrics value in one font got changed from 141 to 140.The questions are:(1) Can shrinking the bounding boxes cause any compatibility problems with old apps that may have been fine-tuned to use the older, sloppier boxes?(2) Any idea why TTX would compute a different number of Glyphs than in the original TT font file? Any answers appreciated.Regards,George
I recently was deleting fonts from Extensis Suitcase Fusion. Apparently, at some point, I tossed a font that upset Fusion. Now whenever I try to access the app. (to add a folder, font, etc.) I get a "Connection Failed" notice that reads–"The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again."This pop-up prevents me from doing anything with Fusion.I am not, and never have been, connected to a server. My computer is an iMac.Any thoughts?
Can anyone explain why the oldstyle figures in Linotype Didot are the size they are in proportion to each other? 0, 1 and 2 are so small compared to 3 through 9 that they look really strange. Is there a general principle that designers follow when creating figures like this? Thanks,John
We have a client who restricts our use of fonts, specifically stating that all use "must be 10 point or larger Arial or Times New Roman font type." We frequently use Arial Narrow when developing complex graphics and tables for this client but were recently advised that Arial Narrow is 'another type of font' and unallowable per their instructions. An ongoing (and costly) discussion is taking place.I always thought that Arial Narrow was a subset of the Font Family Arial. Have I been wrong all these years and must now confess my ignorance??? And are Font Families different than Font Types? Please help answer this question as resetting everything (and we do not use Arial Narrow in body text for those of you freaking out) will be nightmare as we have page restrictions in this 300 page document also. My thanks in advance is somebody can explain it in a way that even an engineering group could understand. Gofigyyer [who still can't believe I couldn't answer this question after all these
Hello, All.I would like to use a cursive font in my PDF, or some other font that looks like natural handwriting. But, if the user that I send it to doesn't have the same font installed, will s/he be able to see the custom font? Or, will the PDF default to Times New Roman, Arial, etc.?I understand that fonts can be somehow "embedded" into a pdf, but I don't really understand what this means, and the advantage/disadvantage of doing it.Thanks for your time to respond to my question!
I find in a mid-16th century Spanish printed publication the use of two lower case r's. See attached PNG. "El tercero libro" demonstrates this where a fairly standard lower case "r" is used int "tercero" whereas in a different character is used in "libro".Does anyone know the context in which one is chosen instead of the other?Does anyone know if this is a common or historic convention and if a particular Unicode character would be used for this today?I find consistant usage of each character in words that are repeated but cannot decipher a rule regarding usage either by proximity to consonants or vowels, beginning or ending of words or syllables, use in nouns or verbs, etc, etc. Perhaps it is related to pronunciation but I can't establish that since I don't speak Renaissance Spanish.
What is the typeface that Adobe is using for their CS3 or CS4 icons please( example, Fl, ID, AI, Ps, DW- what font is on the icons)Thanks
Hi there,I'm new to these forums and apologize if I'm in the wrong place. I was wondering if there is a utility I can use to view uninstalled fonts? I have a CD with fonts that I'd like to preview. I can double click each, but it is getting tedious. By the way, I'm on a Mac running Tiger. I know I can use Preview, but it still opens each individually in cascading windows. Would utilities such as FontAgent or FontExplorer be useful for this? I would also like to print a sample of all the fonts for reference.Thank you in advance for any assistance or direction!
