The "search forums" field in the top right of the page currently searches all the forums. It would seem more logical for it to only search forums at the level that the user is currently browsing. Alternatively add a "search this forum" field.
Adobe forums lost the functionality to open the entire message board thread from the google-search results. It will direct you first to the main page and required you to be signed in first. AND when you managed to sign in, you are just in the main home page without the result you clicked from the google-search.And even if you are signed in already, clicking the google-searched result pointing to the adobeforums will still lead you to the main home page instead of the actual thread discussion.I hope this functionality will be considered again. The forums has TONS of sections and products and it will be difficult to use operators here versus the one that Google use. Also the forums has not migrated all the topics especialy in the premiere elements section.
When I look at a thread from the second (or higher) list page of any New Adobe Forum, I can't get back to that forum list. Going "back" (back button or keyboard) always takes me back to the beginning -- page 1.(osX 10.5.5, safari v3.1.2)
I'm in flat, not threaded view. I've just found out that a post can be edited, even after there's a following post - if that post is directed at someone else. Some people using threaded view and some using flat could get very confusing. Hard to know who's talking to who(m).
I finally found the photography forum but it was kind of hidden. Where do you have Illustrator?
In the prefs it is a very broad subscibe to threads I start or subscribe to threads I post in. Well how do you subscribe to just the threads I want to?
The latest content that was posted through NNTP to forums.macromedia.com is missing. My last message was posted to macromedia.coldfusion.server_administration at Sat, 04 Apr 2009 10:34:54 +0200, I don't know who else has posted all through the weekend. (The NNTP interface was enabled until late Saturday.)
The abyss is opening.
Keep trying to add nickname to allow a post and getting xxx already taken. some more exotic examples are DJK543DJK1 All report taken.
We're working on new ways to access the Adobe User to User Forums. Right now the primary way to access the forums is via the web using an HTTP interface. But it is also possible to access the forums as newsgroups (NNTP).
I'm not trying to change it anymore because I don't think I can stop the river. But I am going to miss this clean, simple forum. I think it is one of the best there is. I don't participate nearly as much as some of you do but I'm usually around reading and enjoying. Some of you are quite entertaining. I just hope it doesn't get too pathetic. It would be sad if this becomes not fun or informative anymore. Maybe we could start a new one. But then who wants to run it? Guess all we can do is wait and see.
On this last day of the forums as we know them, and with more fragmented and formal forums awaiting us, I wish to thank you all as fellow members and friends for the time that has passed. This forum of forums has been extraordinary, with an extraordinary sense of community.
This subforum was created as part of the preparations for the forum changes. However, I believe they contain valuable contributions, including observations, suggestions, and considerations. Will they still be here after the change, or will they be lost?
Hi all I see the announcement of forums unavailability. Does this mean come Monday all will be handled via the new format? Or is this simply a refresh and further testing? Thanks...
...take a look at the ANNOUNCEMENT in red at the top of the main page.
Thank you, John, for having developed and upheld these timeless and well designed forums in their present form for so long. When they are lost, swept away by the tide of the current contemporary forum design which will hopefully pass again, some of us shall wish we were back in this golden time. I am sure you know that those of us not welcoming the changes to be, and what we sincerely see as fundamentally inferior in terms of functionality and efficiency as well as in overall design, are the defenders of your efforts, then and now. And as you know, the very same we have regularly, as committed forum members, taken the time and effort to try to help improve what were real shortcomings, sometimes possible, sometimes impossible to mend. And I am sure you know that we appreciate your efforts right now, under the conditions that you know and we do not. And as you know and we know, those that see us as attackers of progress, and worse, are actually the relentless and incessant attackers
Does it work? EDIT: This Works! I took out the "curly"quotes and replaced them with straight quotes. JC
I am really looking forward to this new forum layout. As the current forums that came from Marcomedia are dated and simply just suck. I assume the RSS feed will work, as it does not currently in the Flex forum. Thanks.
Before anyone posts ANY image in the New Forums, it is essential that they re-read Adobe's TOS and particularly the wording (and implications) of Clause 8. Adobe has given themselves the power to purloin any "Content" posted or displayed on their web sites (meaning our original art and photographs) for ANY purpose, anywhere, and in perpetuity Adobe's Legal Department need to address this matter with some urgency because the risk of loss of Artists' Rights is already damaging participation in some Forums severely: The Photography Forum is one example as shown in these threads: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b85627/ Wade Zimmerman, "So is the photography forum dead or grasping for its last breath?" #, 19 Mar 2009 12:27 pm
Link my ID to what? Forums are migrating to where? Isn't Adobe supposed to hire the best information architects out on the market? Doesn't San Francisco have like the most Information Architects / Developers per capita. How difficult is it to setup a decent forum site when you have some of the most intelligent IT folks working for your company? Oh wait, I think Adobe might become the new Microsoft soon. Adobe, your user system is horrible, and confusing at best. At one point, I got a screen that said that the Forums were now using Nicknames. What? Nicknames? Am I in the early eighties with a 2400 baud modem dialing into a BBS? Give me a break. I already signed up, why do you want Nicknames. And how is a nickname different from the username that I entered when I registered? Regardless, I tried about 4 "Nicknames" and then your system said it was already in use. Then I typed in "a;ldfkjal;fdkjadsf" and your system said that was in use. Are your QA people awake? What do they do with the
I like the concept of converting the forum page into a PDF. However, while the url links are converted as live links, they are not indicated in a blue typeface or underline. I would like that. I also like the view for Preview for Print. VERY clean. Could that become the actual layout view?
After applying the various scripts and Adblock page elements blocking, the new forums look very, very good: <br /> <br />c <a href="http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1kh7PYdJTceOSrCTQRbaifku3nd7ke1" /></a> <img alt="Picture hosted by Pixentral" src="http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1kh7PYdJTceOSrCTQRbaifku3nd7ke1_thumb.jpg" border="0" /> <br />c Forum Index Page <br /> <br />c <a href="http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1415Q4LZA1vpwD2HcpwBMdXhf5WjU" /></a> <img alt="Picture hosted by Pixentral" src="http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1415Q4LZA1vpwD2HcpwBMdXhf5WjU_thumb.jpg" border="0" /> <br />c Forum Thread page <br /> <br /> No more avatars, no more "More Stuff Like This" cr@p, no more Community Experts labels, no more Popular Discussions, no more Top Participants, no more points ratings, no more total numbers of posts for each user, no more nonsense. <br /> <br /> My warm
Well, not surprisingly the Adobe team went and mucked up what I feel is the best forum on the Internet. They made it look like every other forum on the Internet, with just too much going on. The clean, plain simple look of the current forums is superior to any other I've ever seen, and changing that is just not worth whatever new 'forum features' might come along. If you can't add new features with the current look, then just don't do anything. Specifically, the original author of the post is a "who cares" type of thing. It's not needed in a message view. This is worse than what we now have. Likewise the "views" and "replies" are not required information, and only serve to mess up the view. This is worse. The message Subject has too little room to display, so it gets wrapped to a second line. This is worse. Maybe it's not obvious, or not implemented yet, but I see no flags telling me there are replies that I haven't read yet. This is worse. When you open a message thread, we have
The thread with this name that was closed with no explanation did serve a useful purpose, so I am opening a new one to replace it. Speed is back to normal now, and if there was a shutdown, I wasn't here to witness it.
Very clean, very nice. Nice options for paragraph & text... attaching files, list goes on. Hopefully and especially new users will behave and do not screw up the clean look with bunch of useless smilies, signatures and useles stuff. My Fear: If possible, please Adobe keep people away from using signatures of ANY kind, it would just mess up the enire clean structure of a thread. I'm really not interested in nonsense pictures or funny text footers - move this completely to the profiles where people can mess up in their own flat -_- Thanks a bunch for your hard work. can't wait...
