Serial number for CS5.5 not accepted. Need 24 digits. I have DWD+18 digits. [was: Staying Honest]

So, having purchased Dreamweaver CS 5.5 in 2007, I needed to upgrade from a 2008 Macbook Pro

Apparently, after a 30 min online chat, a 20 minute phone call and another 40 min chat with Dipen online,

Adobe's solution is for me to re buy the software, not even upgrade?

In less than 5 mins I could have found a cracked version (but I won't)

What a way to run a business...

Hi Jeff, all was encouraging until I hit the install button, only to be informed: ”You can’t open the application “Adobe Installer” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.”

Great try though, the second online Chat person sent me through the same page.

Thank you, I still appreciate it.

FYI, During the download I was wondering, if this works, how do I get my previous work to open? Perhaps I could grab my site and download it all. Then all was mute.

Yes, if you are able to download your software from a server, you can do it after you have installed the application.

If you are trying to recover your files from a server, you can use any FTP application such as Filezilla. You do not need Dreamweaver to do that. Like the others have suggested on the forum, you can use Brackets to modify your files after you have downloaded them.

This is what I inferred from your question, and am sorry if I was mistaken in my observation.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I'm trying to use CS 5.5 on OS 10.11.5, I downloaded and installed however the serial number format has been changed.

My serial starts with letters, new entry won't take letters,

    Old format was DWDXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

    new one is XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

so no way to enter, Adobe says only solution is to "buy a newer version or pay a subscription (I'll never do that FYI)  they are my only options".

I was actually told that my software "was 9 years old", as I explained both my home and my car are older and their keys still fit.

I'm not a 'power user', I purchased to build and update my own website.

Guess another option would be to use software from a different source. Only a new learning curve is keeping me from jumping ship.

A apologize for the angry tone, but it's very frustrating. Certainly have a bitter taste from this experience.

That DWD number is not your serial number. It looks like a product ID code.

See serial code does not fit.

Adobe serial numbers have been 24 digits (6 groups of 4) for a long time.

I agree, however I counted 5 times that the forum is the way to get me sorted out.

I will look elsewhere, Brackets seems too complicated for me as the Dreamweaver tutorials helped me no end.

I think I’ll need to start again with a drag and drop system.

Thank you for you time and advice.

    Regards

    Richard

Are you sure the DWD number wasn't a redemption code, maybe for the educational discount?

Your actual 24 digit serial number should be available under the Adobe Id used to purchase/register it when you go to Adobe.com and log in. After logging in, under the account that registered it originally, click Manage Account. The serial should be listed under Plans & Products > View All.

What exactly are you trying to do?

    Re-install CS5.5 on a new Mac?

If so, download the installer from Adobe, install then enter your serial number.

Download Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 products

    Or upgrade to CS6?

    Or join the Cloud?

Thank you, I have before, and just again followed the links to my account to get the serial number, each time getting the same, now unusable (DWDXXXetc) number.

It would appear that is what I was given and what worked in 2007.

Yes, I’m just trying to authorize a new computer (my previous maxed out at 10.6 ) with the latest Mac OS (10.11.5 actually, soon to be 10.11.6)

    Regards,

    Richard

Richard I reviewed the account associated with the e-mail address you used to post to this forum.  The serial number under your account is for Dreamweaver version 8.0.  DWD stands Dreamweaver Windows and the 800 stands version 8.0.

The good news is that Dreamweaver 8.0 was included with Creative Suite 2.3.  For details on how to download and install Dreamweaver see "Activation server unavailable" error in Adobe CS2, Acrobat 7, and Audition 3.

You will want to download and install Creative Suite 2.  During the installation process there will be an option to customize the installation.  You can then choose to install Dreamweaver at that time.  Please make sure to use the serial number available on the page where you download the Creative Suite 2 installation files.
