when exactly do licenses get verified?

Good day!

Someone who occasionally has to work offline asked me about the exact time CC licenses get verified and I could not tell for sure.

Do any of you know what the exact verification-calendar for an annual license would be?

Or if logging out and in in the CC application would make sure to start the interval anew?

TIA for any information,

Pfaffenbichler

C.pfaffenbichler, if you have an annual membership then you can be offline for up to 99 days - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/internet-connection-creative-cloud-apps.html.

If you find that you are unable to use Creative Cloud applications offline at all, then it is due the stored licensing information being damaged or invalidated, thus requiring a new connection to validate if the membership is active or not.

Adobe would not publish such information. Assume it checks every time. HOWEVER, there is some leeway for being offline for a time. Some say it will allow up to a month, but others report it fails the first day offline.

Thank you!

I had assumed a month, too, though not certain if it would coincide with a calendar month or just 30 days or …

Do you have any personal experience or recommendations about how to proceed if one is about to go offline for a while (less than a month) to ensure the license doesn’t terminate due to verification-failure during that time?

Just to clarify I'm interpreting it correctly, doesn't the link say one calendar month plus 99 days?

Creative Cloud for individual Up to one calendar month + 99 days of offline use
  • After one calendar month, a dialog box requests online connection.
  • You can dismiss the dialog box; the next reminder shows up after 30 days.
  • After one calendar month + 69 days, the dialog box appears daily.
  • After one calendar month + 99 days, one final offline product launch is available.

Excellent point, John.  I aim for the 99 days because up to one calendar month can depend upon various conditions.  Ninety-nine days is a stable number of days and allows individuals to plan for a time, get online, and let the computer verify the annual membership is still valid.

For future viewers of this discussion, if you find that you are unable to use your Individual Creative Cloud membership offline, then please see https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/adobe-license-issues-keychain-credential-mgr.html for information on how to remove the Adobe-related licensing information from Credential Manager (Windows) and Keychain (macOS) - https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/adobe-license-issues-keychain-credential-mgr.html.  If you still cannot use the Creative Cloud membership offline, please review any installed security or disk utility software that could be invalidating the Adobe-related licensing information and requiring the computer to be online to verify the membership.  In addition, you will want to make sure the software is updated and using the manufacturer's recommended settings.

Understood @Jeff A Wright. I would not normally stress test this to within 24 hours of the maximum either.

Nevertheless, I guess this info could be crucial if you're travelling or based somewhere remote. Knowing you can reasonably go 120+ days between activation checks could make all the difference.

Yeah, this policy was put into effect shortly after Creative Cloud launched.  There was a creative professional who was traveling to Antarctica who was concerned about the need to be online.

The time offline was increased to 99 days to help accommodate those circumstances.  Not much data is required to complete the authentication process, although please make sure Creative Cloud sync is turned off if data usage is limited.

Good to know. I do vaguely recall some adjustment of that type back at the launch of the Cloud but was not aware of the details. Thanks for the info.
