There have been several discussions about this issue over the last several years. A variety of solutions have been provided, and some of them work for some people. Unfortunately, none have worked for me. Here is a complete list of everything I have done:
- Unchecked “Use modern user interface…” under Preferences > Signatures > Creation & Appearance. (https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/screen-goes-black-when-adding-signature/td-p/10979100)
- Checked "Sync preferences across devices and document services" under Preferences > Adobe Online Services. (https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/screen-goes-black-when-adding-signature/m-p/12458629#M334231)
- Restored the Acrobat preferences files (Mac OS). (https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082
- Signed out of the application, rebooted the computer once, and re-logged in to the application using the same Adobe ID. (https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/screen-goes-black-when-adding-signature/m-p/11870952#M301066)
- Unchecked "Enable Enhanced Security" under Preferences > Security (Enhanced). (https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/acrobat-dc-for-mac-puts-up-a-black-screen-over-my-pdf-when-signing-or-securing/m-p/10930809#M241296)
- Verified that I’m fully up to date (using version 21.07.20099). (https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/screen-goes-black-when-adding-signature/m-p/12472960#M335261)
- Used root account. (https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/screen-goes-black-when-adding-signature/m-p/12476013#M335445)
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat.
I’m still getting a black screen with a white dot in the center when I try to sign a document. I’m running macOS Big Sur 11.6, but this has been a persistent issue for a while. I am just one of a number of people still having this issue. If this describes you, then leave a note here. Let’s pressure Adobe to acknowledge that there is a legitimate software issue that needs to be addressed by their development team!
Thank you,
Jeff
