Export problem from Word to PDF on Mac

I'm having new problems converting a Word doc to PDF. The Word doc is 50 pages has page breaks, images, tables, etc.

Here is what happens:

  • Save as PDF > Best for printing: PDF does not display images corretly--images display as narrow color bands
  • Save as PDF > Best for electronice distribution and accessiblity (using Microsoft online service): PDF displays images correctly
  • Print > PDF > Open in Preview: Creates multiple PDF files

My programs:

  • Microsoft Word Office 16.48
  • Mac OS Big Sur 11.2.3
  • Adobe Pro DC 2021.001.20149

Thanks for any solutions!

Correct answer Amal.

Hi KodaNuka

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described you are experiencing  trouble while creating PDF from Word document on Mac

Would you mind sharing the workflow/steps you are doing? Are you saving as PDF (Microsoft process) or Saving as Adobe PDF (Adobe Process)? Please try to create the PDF from the Acrobat ribbon present in the MS Word Toolbar at the top and see if that helps.

For more information about creating PDF from MS Office please check out the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/how-to/create-pdf-files-word-excel-website.html

Also, please try to rest the Acrobat preferences to default as described in the help page https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082 and check.

If it still doesn't work please create a new test user profile with full admin rights or enable the root account in Mac and try using the application there and check.

Regards

Amal

Hi Amal,

I did as you suggested and tried to create the PDF using the Adobe button in the ribbon and it worked! When I did this, I received a pop up that states it's using the Adobe Cloud PDF service. Is there a way to do this without using the cloud service?

Do you have an idea why the "save as" steps below do not work?

  • Save as PDF > Best for printing: PDF does not display images corretly--images display as narrow color bands
  • Save as PDF > Best for electronice distribution and accessiblity (using Microsoft online service): PDF displays images correctly
  • Print > PDF > Open in Preview: Creates multiple PDF files

Thanks!

Having the same issue converting MS Word for Mac to PDF -- hyperlinks only export if you select YES to cloud service. Save As PDF for electronic distribution does not work, nor does Print > Save to PDF.
