How can Turn off the 'AI Assistant'?

How can I get rid of the horrible 'AI Assisitant' ? I hate, hate, hate, hate eeverything about it. I hate the popups that constantly get in my way every time I open a new PDF, I hate the way it dramatically slows down the application every time I want to just search for something, and I hate that way that it doesn't work at all or provide any value of any form. I just want it gone and never, ever, ever, ever, under any circumstances want it to be there getting in the way of every simple thing I want to do.  Please, please, please, please: how can I make it just go away? I just want to open and look at a PDF for heavens sake, I don't need any of this AI nonsense.

Hi all,

Your feedback matters—and we’ve listened.

We understand that not everyone requires AI assistance in their workflow. Many of you shared concerns about intrusive prompts and lack of control, and we’ve taken action.

Now, Acrobat gives you complete control over AI features through Preferences. You decide what stays on and what turns off—no enforcement, no surprises — just flexibility.

For more information on preferences, please check this out: https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/we-heard-you-full-control-over-ai-features-in-acrobat/td-p/15586524

The correct answer is actually to click the hamburger menu and DISABLE NEW ACROBAT READER and click OK

Hi all,

You need to be forwarding these communications to your Adobe account
manager too. It seems Adobe will do nothing unless we bombard those who
have power to initiate change!

And only positive change, which AI is NOT!!

I have been trying to do this as well but the button will never go away. I hate AI for 99.99999% of the things that people feel that they feel they need to use it. It is worse to have it forced on me. But all my research has seen that Adobe doesn't care and will not allow us to remove those features from their application. I just want a basic reader so that I can see documents and not much more. So I guess I will just drop Adobe like so many others have and download some basic reader from somewhere else. The option is off, but button stays even after saving and shutting down. Stupid!

Hi,

Please check for remove

https://www.pdfgear.com/chat-pdf/how-to-disable-adobe-acrobat-ai.htm

Or with power shell (admin)

$Path = 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\FeatureLockDown'
if (!(Test-Path $Path))
{
$null = New-Item $Path -Force -ErrorAction Stop
}
New-ItemProperty $Path -Name bEnableGentech -PropertyType Dword -Value 0 -Force

Best Regards

The real answer I finally figured out is to just go to the hamburger menu and simply click on DISABLE NEW ACROBAT READER and click OK. That got rid of everything that was bugging me and returned to the regular reader. Didn't have to do any reg edit or use their suggestion of disabling the AI crap that does nothing. I don't know why they make it so hard to turn it off but I hope this will save everyone's sanity and hopefully Adobe will put it as the number 1 solution and take out anything that referes to that stupid disabling AI crap.

I agree with you Edwin- that is Adobe relentlessly trying to push their AI tools on creators. Incredibly irritating.

I am activily learning alternatives to these programs now, and cancelled my subscription. The AI stuff is one problem, but there just seems to be on going bugs and problems that never seem to get fixed. We do not get the features we want/need and just get the features Adobe want's to monitize.

Like in Acrobat pro if I use the classic interface it never remembers my favorite tools. They keep clearing and I have to go looking for "Print Production."

Then the other day I tried switching to the "New and Improved" File Dialog in Indesign. It's stupid. It takes me longer to set up a new document than it used to, and it kept clearing my inputs if I typed too fast. So I had to swtich back to the old New File Dialog.

Adobe is heading down the same road as Quark did years ago. They think they have a stanglehold, treat their customers like crap, and then everyone leaves as soon as a decent alternative comes around.

This is what is working for me so far. BUT IT'S DANGEROUS so only do it if you know how to use RegEdit. And it will probably change when Adobe updates the program again and turns it back on.

In RegEdit goto:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\Gentech

Then changed the following from "1" to "0"

bEnableGentech: 0

bEnableGentechAssistanteSmartSuggestionsBanner: 0

bEnableGentechOnboarding: 0

You might not have to set them all to 0, the first one might disable everything. But I just wanted to be sure.

So far the AI button is gone. The Gnerative Summary button from the sidebar is gone, and the AI tools from the tool folder are gone.

Never mind it worked for about 30 minutes. Then it all got turned back on again.......

This is ridiculous that Adobe insists on forcing us to see these stuff we will never use.

I thought "Clippy," introduced by Microsoft in 1996 was annoying. The AI assistant with Adobe is far, far worse.

Hi, just some feedback if possible?  I don't want to turn off the AI assistant. I've had no cause to use it.

What I do want it to move the annoying Ask AI Assistant "splash" that covers up the entire bottom of the page, so I cannot use a horizontal scroll bar. There's already an AI button at the top. Can you help or remove that feature?

Apologies if this is the incorrect forum for posting it. There's apparently no help menu in Acrobat and the chatbot has no idea what I mean.

Hi Tariq, that does work - but it requires doing this on each document. For me, part of good UI is that something doesn't get in the way but is there if you need it. The current assistant location is akin to a "nag screen" and discourages me from using it. Hope any feedback will be considered by Adobe.

I sure do love the way you worded your question.  I feel the same way.  Why do they do this to us without our permission.  I'm having so much trouble using Adobe reader since the AI assistant was added.

AI Assistant is here. Great.

Now, how do we turn it off?

If it had any Intelligence at all, the first thing it would do is turn itself off.

Amen to that.  Adobe, just leave us alone with your "helping."

I'm the first to have writeen don't want it/don't need it/want it gone... and I have now just reviewed all the comments and responsese.  My earlier additional comment re "AI =" seems to bode true in all respects here.

As reported earlier, accessiing preferences from the "hamburger" (and it had to be someone who survives on junk food that came up with that association to the tripple bars) and turning off the generative AI does ABSOLUTELY NOTHIING!

Yep I am yelling here.

I hope I am long retired (and perhaps have left this earth) by the time the gneration who relies on AI is running the world.  It's scary enough as it is!

Clearly they are forcing this Generative AI on us becasue they want their programmes to learn from our hard work and then appropriate it and then sell it back to us. Disgusting! And it is annoying and unhelpful to boot. I don't want this forced upon me Adobe. I'm just trying to read a document and the moment and you have made this impossible.
