Yesterday and week before I've been using the free acrobat reader with no problem. Today, any pdf I try to open gets an error saying there is a problem with protected mode and the open fails. I want to download the free adobe reader, which I thought was my default reader but today opening a pdf open the pay-for reader. Every site that I try to download from requries me to download some other software before I can download the reader. I don'twant any other software, I just want the free Adobe reader.

Here's the error I'm getting:

Any suggestions?

No, clearly I can't answer your question. I've answered it many times and you keep asking it again, so I don't think we are able to communicate.

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. This is the free Reader. What makes you think it isn't?

    @ Test Screen Name

I didn't say that I think it isn't the free reader. I've seen it called different names and just wanted to be certain that Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is another one.

So, can you answer my question? How do I navigate to the free reader?

The paid for product is called Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Standard or just Acrobat. The free product was called Adobe Reader once but is today called Acrobat Reader. The current version of all of them is DC. Yes, it’s confusing!

The Step 1 of 3 (see above) doesn't show an option for the free reader. It shows "Adobe Acrobat Reader DC". How do I navigate to the free reader?

And be sure to deselect the following if you don't want any extra apps.

NEVER, never download Reader from a non-Adobe site. Many of these are just trying to trick you into installing malware, to give you viruses, steal personal info or worse!!

    Go to http://get.adobe.com/reader

If you have installed Acrobat Pro and don't want it, then uninstall it first.
