Adobe says the Reader is "Free". I have the Free Version.

When I try to open a PDF document, it keeps putting up a Promo Wall with NO Exit option for a Free Trial of a Paid version.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this and still keep the free reader? I do not need any additional features, I just want to view and print the documents. Not interested in a Free Trial.

Tariq,

Very sorry for the tempest in a teacup. I did more probing, and I found
that the default app for image files was changed to Acrobat Reader - which
I am sure is NOT my doing. The two or three files I was trying to open
existed in my files in both formats - PDF and JPG - with the same filename.
The Explorer in Windows 11 does not show the extension when I am viewing
the folder contents, so I clicked on the jpg file when I was trying for the
PDF version, and it woke up the Reader.

Dear Tariq,

Thank you for your quick reply.

Here it is. If I 'x' it out and try to reopen the document again, it just
repeats. The document never opens. It seems to happen only with some
documents. This particular document which will not open is just a shot of a
catalog page for some merchandise I was shopping for, and I downloaded from
the manufacturer's page.

Your website suggested that I may have no Reader installed in my computer,
or the version was very old. No on both counts. I went ahead and downloaded
the file to install the latest version, and the .exe file simply returns a
message saying the reader ios already installed in my computer.

Hi Kannan,

As you mentioned, "It seems to happen only with some documents. This particular document, which will not open is just a shot of a catalog page for some merchandise I was shopping for, and I downloaded it from the manufacturer's page."

Can you share a few sample documents or at least one using the reproducible issue on your end? Also, would you let us know the file you have downloaded from the shopping site? Is it a .pdf file or an image or other file format?

A few other such changes have appeared in my investigation after I found
this. It seems to have happened after a Windows update.

Thank you for trying to help me.

Kannan,

Thanks for trying that out and letting us know.
It gets tricky sometimes, trust me. Enjoy the application, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions in the future.

I am having the same issue in regards to some weird "paywall" thing which I've never had before with Adobe Reader. Every time I try to open a PDF it give me this message:

Start your free trial of Adobe Acrobat.
Start your free trial or go ahead and buy now.
Then, the only other buttons you can click are as follows: "Quit Adobe Acrobat" "Buy Now" "Start Free Trial". When I try to click away from this page, it just quits Adobe altogether.  What's up??
