Todays update of Adobe Acrobat Reader: protected mode does not work any longer

With the just rolled-out version 23.6.20360.0, the protected mode does not work any longer.  Trying to open a document leads to a message, only allowing you to open the document unprotected.
My system: Windows 11, actual. Internal virus scanner, actual.

Hi Amal,
thanks for the hints.
All pdf are affected, older, newer, local and network files.
repair installation: did not help
Renaming Preferences:  did not help. In addition, no new preferences folder was created.
Finally, I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Reader completely and installed it again.
This helped! Now everything seems to be ok.
Thank you for your support.

Hi @Di32981598l18c

I hope you're doing well. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with Acrobat Reader

.

To better assist you, could you please clarify whether this issue is specific to a particular PDF file or if it happens with all PDFs? It's a good idea to test with a different PDF file to see if the problem persists. If the file is stored on a shared network or drive, try downloading it to your local computer and then attempt to open it again.

Since you have the latest version installed, you can also try repairing the installation. Here are the steps to do so:

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat.
  2. Navigate to the "Help" menu > Repair installation (this option is available on Windows only).

Additionally, resetting Acrobat preferences may help resolve the issue. You can follow the instructions provided in this Adobe Community post: How to Reset Acrobat Preference Settings to Default.

Please give these steps a try and let us know if any of them resolve the problem. If you continue to experience issues, feel free to provide more details, and we'll do our best to assist you further.
