disappearing annotations on iPad Adobe Reader app

New Here ,
Oct 25, 2021 Oct 25, 2021

I annoted a PDF two days ago through Adobe Reader on my iPad with and specifically remembered to select "Done" to save the notes, today I opened the PDF to see the annotations are not there anymore - is there any way I can find my annotations?

I did try some of those steps. Here's what happened and the work around I have found I need to do:

*
On my iPad, I would go to the file in my Google Drive and select to "Open in" Acrobat
*
The file would open and I would make notes. I would save the file, even save an additional copy as well, onto the iPad in the Files app (or whatever)
*
After closing said file, I would reopen the same file and all notes would be gone.

Solution:

*
Open file the same way. Save the file and close it.
*
Reopen and start making notes. Save file.
*
Reopen. All notes there.

There's seems to be something that keeps notes from saving, at least for me, when I open a file for the first time.

Best,
Josh

Hi @Grace 5C3A

Hope you are doing well.

Thank you for posting your query here. Please help me with few details to understand your issue better.

  1. Make and model of your device?
  2. Application version? Are you using beta application?
  3. Do you have premium subscription? To check please refer : https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobat/ios/en/troubleshooting.html?highlight=about

Make sure your application is updated. Do save your work then try to sign out and sign in back. Reboot your device.

Note: Ensure you are connected to the internet.

Let us know how it works at your end. If you have any further queries please feel free to reach out to us.

Regards

Ria

Hi Ria,

Following is my response to your questions:

1. iPad Pro, Version iPadOS14.7.1

2. I'm not using a beta version. I have an Adobe account so I'm signed in Adobe Reader through my account.

   App Version is 21.09.01

3. Subscriptions I have are: Adobe Document Cloud, Premium and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC

I've already tried signing out/in, rebooting my device and I'm connected to internet. I also tried other things written in other people's forums like checking all of my folders and seeing if different versions of the PDF was saved. In sharing, under preferences I turned on "share a flattened copy" based on another dicussion.

None the of the above has helped. Please give me other solutions. I am not sure why the annotations just don't save automatically. Especially after clicking "Done"

Hello,

Any updates regarding this?

I just had a similar issue and lost my complete semester notes made using comments via Apple Pencil:(. I have an exam in a week and I am quite worried as I lost all my work.  Any updates will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Arti

Hi @Arti270263097ena

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble with Acrobat Reader Mobile.

Can you confirm if the file you added the annotations was saved to your internal storage or any Cloud Storage?

If on a cloud storage, Acroabt Reader creates an internal copy of the file which will contain the annotations.

I suggest you open the document from within the application after making the annotations and rather save a copy to your desired location and the comments should be present there.

This is generally when the cloud platform your file is saved in, does not allow realtime annotations or editing to be saved directly.

Let me know if this helps.

-Souvik.

Did this ever get worked out? I have tried several times to take notes on PDFs and they keep just disappearing. This is pretty frustrating and losing me a bunch of time.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well.

Have you tried the steps shared in the previous reply?  Let us know how it goes.

Also, share the version of the reader mobile app and the OS you are using. To check the version tap on the profile icon > About Adobe Acrobat and try updating the app from the App store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and reboot the device once.

Also share a small video recording of the steps you are taking and the issue as it occurs for more clarity.

~Amal
