How to Disable Generative AI pop-up in Acrobat

Community Beginner ,
Oct 07, 2024 Oct 07, 2024

I've gone to Preferences and turned off Generative AI in Acrobat..

But the App keeps asking me to turn it on when downloading a PDF File.  How can I disable the AI feature once and for all?  I turned it off for a reason...I don't want or need AI help with these PDF FILES.

Hi @steve_2373

I hope this message finds you well! Thank you for reaching out regarding your concerns.

I wanted to clarify that since you've disabled the Gen AI feature in your app preferences, the notification you are seeing is a standard response from the application. This behavior occurs when you attempt to access the Gen AI feature after it has been turned off.

If you have any further questions or need assistance with adjusting your settings, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to help!

Regard

Amal

Amal...

Thanks for the response...
I don't need, want or desire any part of this intrusive app.  I'm simply downloading a PDF ...
This message still requires me to cancel something before I can access the PDF file.

Is there no way to simply opt out/turn off the intrusive message?

Thanks again
Steve

Amal...

This makes little sense to me.   If I disable the AI it should be disabled @@)) I don't want to see a screen that asks me if I want to turn AI back on.  Adobe has been the leader for so long...have "the programers" lost all common sense?  I want to disable AI and no longer be prompted.

Hi @steve_2373

Thank you for reaching out!

To clarify, once the AI feature has been disabled in the preferences, and as long as you don’t click the AI button, the pop-up message should no longer appear. Could you please confirm if you're still seeing the pop-up message even when you haven't interacted with the AI button? If that's the case, we'd like to investigate further to resolve this unexpected behavior.

Please let me know if there's anything specific happening that might help us troubleshoot the issue.

Looking forward to your response!

~Amal

This is happening for me, too. I've disabled the AI in Preferences (and even in the online part, although I don't ever use that). It still comes up.

Adobe - I'm interested in my workflow taking the absolute minimum steps/clicks. Needing to click out of something or just having an unneeded box in the way, slows me down.

Running iOS 18.3.1, and there is no "Enable generative AI features in Acrobat" slider button, or even a "GENERATIVE AI FEATURES IN ACROBAT" section under preferences. Likely due to my iPhone being subjected to company management, and the admins have seen fit to turn on Generative AI and not allow users to turn it off. My only use of Acrobat on iOS is as a reader, and as has been noted in this or other threads on the issue, the intrusive Generative AI popup chews up valuable screen real estate on an iPhone screen.

My solution? I removed the Acrobat Reader app from the phone and am now happily using Books on my iPhone to read my PDFs. I might not be the only user to do so. Whether this is a concern at all to Adobe or not, I'll leave it to them to decide.
