iPad: Disable finger drawing when using Pencil

Community Beginner ,
May 23, 2023 May 23, 2023

When using Apple Pencil on iPad, to markup PDF documents, it would be helpful to have a toggle to disable any kind of finger drawing. This way I can use fingers to scroll through the document.

Hi @f13c53,

Hope you are doing well. Thank you for writing in.

The app is designed to have scrolling with two fingers when you are in annotation mode, whether using Apple Pencil or hand drawing.

Thanks. But I still end up accidentally drawing with the finger. So I think it would be useful to completely disable finger drawing when the Pencil is active.

I think it's worth noting that most users also use other apps which have single finger scrolling, so its instinct and hard to change. Also when holding a pencil between my fingers i can't easily put both fingers together on screen to scroll meaning i need both hands, meaning I can't work on it while standing without a desk.

Hi @Carter287079807w44,

Thanks for writing in!

With the newer versions of iPadOS, accidental touch detection on iPads have been minimized by Apple.

Do you still experience the issue? Last time I had this discussion with the dev team, it was Apple's OS, which prevents the iPad from recognizing finger touches, rather than Acrobat Reader Mobile.

This issue is still very present. As other users have said almost all other apps allow the disabling of drawing with fingers when using the pencil. The 2 finger scroll is undesirable and leads to constantly having to use the undo button. And having to put the pencil down to use 2 fingers to scroll adds unneccisary steps and time when trying to optimize workflow.

Hi there

Hope you're doing well, and thank you for reaching out and sharing your observation.

Many users have shared similar concerns, and we agree that the current experience with finger input while using the pencil could be more seamless. The lack of an option to disable finger drawing can interrupt workflow, especially for those who rely on precision and efficiency.

We want you to know that your input, along with others in the community, is being actively reviewed by our product and design teams. Improving the drawing and scrolling experience is on our priority, You may also share your personal feedback with the engineering team here https://acrobat.uservoice.com/forums/914680-acrobat-reader-for-ios
