Nonfunctional?

I have iPhone SE. acrobat reader has become so slow I consider it non functional I have to wait and wait and wait for the app to open, I have to wait and wait and wait again for a document I select to open. Then I have to wait and wait and wait for its image/text to actually appear on the screen. Then I have to wait and wait and wait for it to be usable - allow scrolling, allow finger gestures, allow text selection.

today, I was looking for some info and going between apps and reader was exiting my document instead of leaving it on the screen so I had to do this over and over again.  WTF!!??!

I've tried to get assistance and none to be found. Am I the only person having issues? Should I trash reader permanently for another reader?  I use it quite a bit and it used to be great.

I don't have the same issue on other devices, just my iPhone. However, I have been playing around with other readers to find one that doesn't make permanent choices about the real estate it uses on my screen. Anywhere but iPhone, I have to close bookmarks every single time. Users shouldn't have to do that. We should be able to choose what we see on our screen when.

Hi @ShirleyYouJest,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for your experience with Acrobat Reader Mobile.

Would you mind sharing a few pieces of information for further investigation:

1. The application version of Acrobat Reader Mobile you are using (go to Profile-> About Acrobat);

2. The iOS version your device is running on;

3. The amount of free storage space on your device (go to Settings-> General-> iPhone Storage);

4. A screen recording of the situation for better understanding;

5. If this is happening with a specific file, please share the file over private messages (click on my profile-> click the blue button saying "Send a message" on the next page) to reproduce the issue.

I would suggest using the latest application version on the AppStore.

Look forward to hearing from you.

I did have the most current version 23.04.01 but I removed it yesterday to try some other options. I pasted in your questions below because they are not included in reply and I need them to respond.

I’m on 16.4.1 (a), I keep my phone up to date.

This has been going on for months nowso it covers several different versions and updates of iOS and acrobat. The only commonalties are my iPhone SE and that the behavior is adobe acrobat only with every single pdf file I had on my phone until removing it when it blew away my files.

You need to change that about apps. You don’t own my files, you own your files. User files should stay on the user device. Computers work that way. I know apps are built differently but all Macs have things ring fenced and desktops and laptops don’t delete user files. So store them somewhere distinct from your system files and only blow away your app when it is deleted!

I have 33.8gb used of 64gb. Unlike many people I know, I do not use my mobile devices as a storage device. I capture what I want and transfer to my iMac or other storage. It may have been higher than 33.8used at points but it has never been over 40gb used

I don’t have a screen recording and for the time being the app is no longer on my phone as the frustration factor is higher than the functionality.

Best I can do is re-iterate the description.

Standard behavior is to click on a document and then wait for something to appear on my screen. It might take a couple of seconds. Often it will come up with a blank white screen before showing me any text or image pdf. If I try to scroll what I do see, it doesn’t move and it won’t select text if I see text. Once I see text or images, I wait again a second or two. Again, it won’t scroll or select. Nothing. Once it starts allowing scrolling it seems to be ok. That is until I exit the document. If I exit to look at another document, I often end up back at my locations screen instead of the list of files. I can tap on the arrow and it does nothing. No recognition it has been tapped and no change in the screen back to my list of files. I’ll wait a bit and tap again. That’s when I end up back at my locations list instead of my files list. I’m waiting long enough that it should have responded but it hasn’t so I figure”it didn’t register the tap” so it needs another.

Yesterday was the above with weird added in. The app did all of the “rendering” and displayed my document long enough for me to catch a few characters then booted me out. I had to do that several times to get some info I needed. During that process, I also saw inordinately large circles spinning on the screen when it was thinking. It hasn’t done that before.

This isn’t just one file. It is your app behavior with every file I had. No worse or better until that particular file yesterday and I cannot share that file.

I’d say more than half my pdf files are created from Adobe scan these days. I use it to scan receipts and other stuff. The naming convention in scan saves me time and I like the ocr aspect. Sometimes I will take a screenshot or download a pdf and save it to acrobat. Sometimes the downloads are not a pdf and I will still save them to acrobat. They get transferred off frequently during the week.
