Remove AI icon in Acrobat Reader Mobile

The AI assistant is in my way. I am using my mobile app so the icon takes up a significant section of the text. The preferences menu does not offer a way to remove the icon. Is there some way to fix this? I don't want or need AI to help me read my documents.

Correct answer Amal.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble.

You can turn off the Gen AI feature from Preferences. Follow the steps as below:

1. Select the profile icon on your device

2. Select Preferences.

3. Select the toggle next to Enable generative AI features in Acrobat.

I have the problem, too. It's annoying to have the AI  line  displayed, even in full screen mode. Many people use their tablets for presentation and don't want anything else on the screen. This is not a minor fault! AI isn't everything, not happy.

I am using Acrobat Pro on an iPhone 15 and when I open preferences there is no option to turn off Generative AI. Its really ridiculous that after all this time there still isn't an easy way to turn this annoying feature off.

Of course I disabled according to your suggestion and now instead of it showing up to ask me to generate a summary, it isks if I would like to enable Generative AI. I turned off the feature only to get this new pop-up. I am paying real money for the app and this forced selling is unacceptable. I don't want Generative AI and I do not need to be asked everytime I open the app if I want it. How can I completely get rid of this pop-up without just cancelling my Acrobat Pro subscription and deleting the app?

I've been to the preference page and turned off Generative AI.... HOWEVER... I still get asked if I want to turn it back on (downloading PDF files in Acrobat). Isn't there a way to just turn it off???

Amal,

I appreciate that you are trying to resolve this, but the AI Assistant button appeared for the first time today in my Adobe Reader app (version 24.09.01 on iPadOS 17.6.1). A few months ago I was able to turn off the button in the desktop app, but I can't find a way to do it in the mobile app. Therefore the OP's problem, which is also my own problem, does not appear to have been resolved by the most recent update.

I am never going to click on the button intentionally, and I would rather it wasn't hopping around in the corner, a distracting purple circle on an otherwise b&w screen.

Try the steps in this Help page for Acrobat Mobile:

Turn off AI Assistant

If you don't require Al Assistant, you can turn it off from Preferences.

  1. Select the profile icon on your device.

  2. Select Preferences

  3. Select the toggle next to Enable generative AI features in Acrobat.

Preferences > Subscriptions also has a subscribe to AI assistant button, which I have not enabled.

Adding to this request to allow us to remove the AI assistant button overlay in acrobat reader on Android. When trying to read content with a bottom detail, I have to use another application right now because it takes up too much room. Pop it up every time we open the app but let us hide it!

Hi Amal

There seems to be some progress on this - I recently reinstalled (to demo for a talk I was presenting) and found that now if you tap the body of the document, all the on-screen menus including the AI dot disappear and you have a clean display of the document to scroll around.

Definitely an improvement and thanks for listening. I will now be keeping Acrobat Reader on my phone as this behaviour is acceptable.

If users dont want it, what is there to discuss? Please remove or give us an option to deactivate this ridiculous floating icon. Best of all: I am viewing a non english document, so I get an error message when I click it. Yet it is still in my face and preventing me from reading the bottom of my pages. It seems that corporate business interest are placed over the best interest of clients and users. Continue like this Adobe and you will soon end up like Boeing.

Once again, the problem is not disabling ai features, it's that disabling ai features does not disable the floating ai assistant ui element that covers up part of the limited viewable space available to read a PDF on a mobile device. This was stated clearly in my previous post, and it doesn't appear that anything has changed since then.

The only viable solution I've found is not to use Adobe acrobat, which has generally been an easy transition.

The solution is to uininstall Acrobat Reader and open your PDFs in a mobile browser - Firefox seems to display them really nice 😄

Knowing Adobe they're probably gonna read all your PDFs anyway lol.

Hope that helps.

It does not help because it does not turn off the floating ai assistant UI element, it just disables the features that it provides, which is really a pretty wild ux decision for a mobile app that is ostensibly intended for viewing pdfs within the constraints of a small screen.
