P: Transparent background or layers

Community Beginner ,

Is there a way to generate an image with a transparent background. Altrnantively, will there be a way to produce an image as file with layers so we can easily  remove the background?

Thank you for your suggestion. At this moment, Firefly cannot create transparent backgrounds. This has been a highly requested feature that will be added to our backlog for discussion. (Merging all similar threads here so we can track the popularity of this feature request)

Maybe I'm missing this obvious missing function, but can you also add an EDIT POST to this forum, so that I don't have to stare at my typo powerless. I mean...it's so fitting it's a missing function. If it's here and I can't find it...well, it's a design issue then.

The ability to edit posts in this forum is not available to newcomers. You need to have made a certain number of posts before that feature is available to you, though I can't recall what that number is. I think it's meant to thwart scammers.

Given what I use Photoshop for — digital scrapbooking — your suggestion of having the ability to create objects with a transparent background in Firefly would speed up my design process exponentially. As it stands, I have to prompt Firefly to create something on a "white background," then extract the object to perfection in order to meet digital scrapbooking quality control industry standards. Transparent backgrounds is definitely on my wish list.

Yes, you have to tell Firefly to add full white BG, and then use select color in your editor of choice--however, this is cumbersome, and the magic marquee, the select by color functions...they never work right. So much time wasted. Firefly cuts it out great usually, and then I spend three times more time selecting and removing it in another app. It's a marketing strat among other things. It's not given to use to bring us to spend more money with Adoble.

cuando se está en la herramienta relleno generativo, la herramienta deja seleccionar el fondo. Seria una buena idea poder descargar la imagen con transparencia en png.

I have the same issue. So my question is why have the feature to remove the background if you cannot save it that way? What is the point? It's done, but now I have to go through extra steps. It did a great job with details in the fur and it's busy work in an editor.

Why have the feature to remove the background in Firefly if we can not save it after the edit? What is the point, or is it a bug? It did a great job with fur and I would like to avoid using Photoshop to clean it up. Photoshop did terribly in removing the background.

Firefly's background removal feature might be limited or still under development. This could explain why saving the edited image isn't currently possible.

While Firefly's performance with fur is promising, you might need to use Photoshop or other image editing tools for more precise background removal or to save the final result.

The feature is called "Generative fill". It is not called "Remove background".

Hello @Enthusiastic_fashion5C80,

The feature to remove a background is to let you then replace that background with newly generated content. It was not created to allow the saving of transparent images. However, you can take a Firefly generated image into Adobe Express and use that to make the image transparent. You can take it into Adobe Express by pressing the "Share" button on the lower right and then selecting "Open in Adobe Express":

Once in Adobe Express, you can select "Remove Background":

If you need to touch up what was made transparent, you can use the "Erase" feature to erase (make transparent) part of the image or restore (remove transparency) parts of the image.

I hope this helps.  Let me know if you have any problems trying this out.

If you would like Firefly to have this capability, upvote this thread (which I moved your post to).

My best,

    droopy

When using png files for reference/style it would be nice to be able to save files with transparent backgrounds/alpha channels. I've other ideas, but that's all for now - really love Adobe - with you had a nonprofit/final payment instead of subscription that doesn't include everything - but that's another issue entirely. Cheers 🙂 Austin

For example, write [walnut, transparent background].
= I get a picture of a walnut with a transparent background.

Then it will be convenient without having to work twice.

For the love of God, make that Adobe's first priority!  Should I come in and do it at my price?

It would be great, to be able to generate images with transprant backgrounds (via text prompt or a checkbox).

I was able to partially bipass this prolem by adding "(The picture needs to be a cut-out meaning with a white backgound)". It is still one layered image but you can extract the image more easily from the background.

Or you could learn how to use editing software and easily create a truly transparent image from the one with the white background. If a client wants a transparent image, they want to buy one and not invest the work in doing it themselves...

Hi @STEFFANIE MELISA_SUER4656,

Are you asking for Firefly to be capable of generating images with a transparent background?

Thanks,

I know what product backlogs can be like and even "simple" or "obvious" changes still have to be done at the expense of doing something else.

BUT, it seems ridiculous that you can select background, it removes it ready to replace it with something, so it's there as a curout... but you can't download that version.

Hello everyone, sorry for my english, I´m testing Adobe Firefly, I create a Rudolph in there pretty awesome by the way, but im checking Adobe Firefly doesnt have an option for export only the character, people, object or anything without background I thing Could be Awesome have that option when we create some stuff in AdobeFirefly there because sometimes we dont need a background, we need just the object, character, person, or that. I know we can remmove the background with some tool in Photoshop but I thing have the option in Adobe Firefly when we create something could be more easy

If Adobe Elements can generate transparent backgrounds, it seems like Firefly should be able to too. This would be extremely helpful in scenarios like making a furry or grassy object that needs to be placed, for example, on t-shirts of various colors.
