Hello there, I am new here to ask some questions. Does anyone here have experience importing files from AI with a duplicated file inside? I would appreciate this being fixed.

I'm experiencing the same issue — when I import an Illustrator file into After Effects, the layers get duplicated. However, the duplicated layers are empty.

@nishu_kush ,thats not entirely true. The further testing I did shows that the issue is not contained to the HDV/HDTV1080 preset, rather, and as also shown by @bookieaka, the issue also presented when using the Web Large preset but with two artboards, rather than the single one pre configured in the template. This would imply that any preset using more than one artboard would also present the issue.

Hello,

When I import .ai file to After Effetcs In folder with .ai layers, layers are duplicated. I use 2024 and 2025 version and I have the same problem in both versions. Alse, when I changed something in Illustrator file, layers in After Effects are empty. What should I do?

Sorry to hear that. This is a known issue. This issue occurs with a specific file preset (HDV/HDTV1080) used to create the project in Illustrator. The product team is working on a fix.

Merging your post with the main thread.

Thanks,
Nishu

I still have this issue in AI 29.8.2 update, I found the number of duplicated layers in AE are depending on number of artboard in AI. With default HDTV template has 2 artboards (I tried more artboards = more duplicate layres), if I delete 1 there're not duplicate issue importing to AE but I have to choose to delete smaller artboard to retain all artworks or delete bigger artboard to keep composition size but artwork beyond artboard had been cut off.

The better way is to try @Ben31216198rrct's solution for now. by using web large template. I did it with no error.

Thanks

My team and I seem to be having this issue too and have been troubleshooting this all morning. In our expeirience it seems to have something to do with using the default HDV/HDTV1080 Ai template. When we used the web large 1920x1080 template the issue doesnt happen.

Thanks for reaching out.

I don't see the issue on my end. Could you share more details? What version of After Effects and Illustrator are you using? Does this issue occur with all Illustrator files? Could you share one of the Ai files to test on my end? Feel free to share via DM if you prefer not to share it publicly.

Here to help.

Thanks,
Nishu

Hi, I am using the latest version of Adobe. regularly updated. as you can see in the screenshot I uploaded above. The layer was duplicated, but there was nothing in that layer. This occurs by using the Film&Video template. I would appreciate this being fixed.
