AE CC2018 and Mocha = lots of crashes.

So, quitting out of Mocha Pro Plugin or Alt-Tabbing from the bundled version of Mocha produces this crash.

After that AE will crash on every startup when it reaches the GUI and will give this error until a system reboot has been implemented.

Moral of the story is this. If you are wanting to use Mocha, stay away from cc2018 until Adobe sort out their s**t.

apparently this is a bug. for me it crashes when copying shape data for my Mocha Ae. does this happen for you also with tracking data? it looks like a clipboard error so clear it and I think you should not crash when re-opening Ae.

I've been copying shape data as well which is when the problem occurs. Not tried tracking tracking data yet but camera solve from Mocha Pro was ok. A clipboard error makes sense. Using 2017 for now.

Same issue here. Similar error popup. Happens only on copying shape data - tracking data appears to work fine. After Effects cashes on boot until the mocha data is removed from the clipboard.

Adobe and the Mocha folks are both aware of the issue and have stated that they are working together to solve it.

It seems to be an issue with the clipboard as you've noted.

In the meantime, the only workaround I'm aware of is for us to do shape stuff in CC 2017.

Boris FX is aware of the crashing issue with Adobe AE CC 2018 and Mocha: "copying Mocha shape data to clipboard, crashes AE" and we are working with the Adobe team to resolve this problem, which we believe to be an issue with the clipboard. Thank you for letting us know.

Please note that for Mocha customers that own the Mocha Pro plug-in for Adobe, you can use "convert Mocha masks" in the plug-in interface to get the shape data back to AE because it bypasses the clipboard.

My personal suggestion is if you do not own the Mocha Pro plug-in and you can't roll back to CC 2017, you can try a trial of the Mocha Pro plug-in fully unlocked for free off of borisfx.com for ten days and use the same plugin interface workflow mentioned above as a workaround. I realize that is not an ideal solution, but it might prevent being stuck on current projects if you're having trouble rolling back to AE CC 2017. Boris FX | Downloads

So that's a helpful workaround suggestion until the bug gets fixed.

I should point out that Mocha Pro has some great features like the remove module which is kind of like the #Cloak feature that is making people so excited from this year's Sneaks at Adobe MAX.

Until the CC app gets fixed and the CC 2017 versions come back, you can install them from here if you need them.

there's also a workaround there that works for me and involves the removal of the mocha shape plugin. you can paste as masks and it works fine.

I've got a workaround/suggestion while we wait for the fix (Soon please Adobe).

I've got AE CC2017 and AE CC2018 installed and running at the same time.

1. From your 2018 project, Track in MochaAE as normal. But don't switch back to AE 2018.
2. In MochaAE, track away as normal, and export the shape data to AE CC 2017 onto one or more solid layers. AE CC2018 can be left running in the background but don't switch to it.
3. Repeat exporting shape layers (step 2) until you've got them all in the 2017 comp.
4. Save the AE CC2017 project with all your shape layer exports, as temp.aep, or whatever temporary filename you want.
5. Important - Go back to Mocha and export tracking data - this is just to clear or at least change the clipboard.
6. Then you can switch to CC2018 and import the temp.aep project to get all your shape layers from the 2017 comp.

Hope this helps someone, and hopefully we won't have to wait much longer (2 months already!)

Having the same problem here with Adobe cc2018 on high sierra. It's ridiculous how I can't even track motion in mocha ae without the whole thing crashing.

the issue of the crash when copying the shape data was fixed in 15.0.1. if you have the recent update and still have a crash please specify the steps of how exactly this happens for you
