After Effects Cover Flow Gallery Tutorial Query

Hello,

I'm really struggling on After Effects CS6.

I am following this tutorial Cover Flow Tutorial - YouTube  to do a cover flow.

Basically my issue is I want the image that enlarges to remain on screen for a few seconds before changing to the next image.

Does anyone know HOW to do it ?

Does it have to do with the index-1 on time remapping he codes?

Many Thanks!

Hello,

I tried the keyframes but it wouldn't work.

Part of the tutorial goes

Enable time-remapping

then you click the stop watch and you write thisComp.frameDuration*(index-1);

and then just duplicate the layers to make the remaining images appear.

If you try and add a keyframe it doesn't work because the code moves it all.

I think perhaps if I remove the code and add a time-stretch it may help.

The files can be found here in the DL Coverflow link.

Judging from the tutorial you'll have to set some keyframes and probably use hold keyframes.

Keyframe the slider from start to end position, adjust the CTI to move image 1 into position, add and copy a new keyframe, move down the timeline to where you want to image to start moving again and and paste the copied keyframe, then repeat the process. You'll have to adjust the final out point.

You could also just set a keyframe for the start of the animation, move the slider to where you want the cover flow effect to pause and set another keyframe, then move the CTI down a bit, the layers should not move, and set a second keyframe, move the CTI again to where you want the second layer to stop and move the slider to bring the second layer to stop and repeat the process.  This should be nor more than basic keyframe workflow that you would use to animate and hold any kind of motion or effect. You may need to use Hold keyframes and experiment with ease in and out but I can't give you the technique there because I don't have this set of Animation Presets.

I made my own to create similar projects. They work entirely differently. Timing is based on in and out points of the layers. You just position the layer where you want it to come to rest, add the preset, then trim the in and out points to set the duration and adjust the controls to adjust anticipation, stretch and squeeze, arc and the rest of the The Illusion of Life techniques that make a good animation. The same preset works for 2D or 3D layers. Then you sequence the layers and you're done. (if that sounds like a sales pitch it probably was).
