Question

automationblocksae - Add effect based on the effects installed and not just native

Hello! This is my first post and I would like to thank you the dev team of the automationblocks, this tool came in the exactly moment I needed, just in perfect sync!

I'm creating a custom project where it needs to load a thrid-party plugin and I can't access it on the "Add effect" block, as it only allows me to apply the native effects from AE. Would be possible to allow the user to load the effects that are installed on the machine instead?

I know a simple solution would be to just create a preset with this effect, but I imagine it can benefit other users as well.

Thank you for this awesome tool once again!

much love, Ricardo

Hi Rickardo,

thank you for your question!

Yes, currently we only support the native effects in the Add Effect block, but you can also apply any other effect, if you save it as an animation preset and then apply it using the Apply Preset block.

This tutorial series gives a good example how to use the Apply Preset block effectively - in particular combining it with the embedded file block, to make sure the preset is included in your script, such that it also works on other machines without the need to install the preset first.

Which effect do you want to use? I plan to add better support for third party effects, too. But the parameters of the effects have to be annotated manually, which takes quite some time. Hence, this has not top priority - in particular since we have the workaround using the presets.

oh thanks for the enlightment! I'd no idea it would be possible to embedded a file with the preset, that's so awesome!

the plugin I'm planning to use is the Live2D Cubism Render, it's something very specific for character animation that renders the rig from Live2D on AE, I don't think it should be somethig with big priority if compared with other major plugins haha I'll just deal with the preset anyway, as some properties will be automated as well 🙂

Great! Due to the easy machanism to embed preset files, using them is really efficient in Automation Blocks. I usually prefer this way to create effects, since it is so easy to customize all parameter settings and even add expressions and keyframes.

Mathias is probably working on it ins some way already. It may just take time to figure out all the match names and check for potential conflicts, so give it some time.... 😉
