Can't click 'Save' in AE

'Save' is greyed out (doesn't even give me the option of clicking it) but 'save as' is not. Obviously, I need to be able to save my project...

May seem like a silly question but have you changed anything since your last "Save?"

If you haven't changed anything since your last save that IS the reason save is unavailable.  Change something and save will become available.

Your initial (first) save has to be "Save As".  Once you save your initial project "save" will be available.

This behavior is standard across all Abdobe apps and many others.

For the record, that's not the case on Macs.  I haven't got a PC in front of me to test at the moment.

A new AE project, Photoshop document etc, all allow you to select "Save" or "Save As" for the initial save.  Obviously the resulting dialog box is identical if the file has never previously been saved.

Premiere Pro establishes the project name and location before any work can be done, so does not apply in this case.

OK.  Must be a Windows thing then.   Just tested on Photoshop and After Effects and the Save item is greyed out on both.  Not the case with Notepad, though; so it is application specific.

Have you opened an AE template project, rather than a regular project?
