Question

Closing unlocked project panel resizes side panels rather than main locked project panel?

Every time I close a second project panel, it resizes the size panels rather than the main locked project panel where I'm viewing the main comp. This causes me to have to drag and resize the size panels. Does anyone know how to force the side panels to stay the same size and the main comp project panel to expand and fit the space? Thanks much!

bumping this because i have to resize this panel maybe ten times per day as i open and close project windows and it's a real pain.

each time it doesn't take long but it's the type of thing that adds up

Is this happening to the After Effects panel or with third-party plug-in panels? Would you mind sharing a screen recording of the issue?

We're here to help.

Thanks,

I came to this forum to suggest exactly this. It's a real pain having to resize panels (eg. my Paragraph panel grows to fill half my screen when I close a 2nd comp viewer panel). I'm sure it wouldn't be too arduous to code something that says "if closed panel = viewer panel AND another viewer is still open, resize the viewer panel not any other panels".

I would suggest that you reset your workspace, that you use workspaces, and that you create any custom workspaces that you need. I reset my common workspaces all the time. My toolbar has been rearranged to show Default, Motion Tracking, Essential Graphics, Paint, Color and a custom workspace I created named Expressions, one click in the toolbar takes me to an efficiently arranged workspace for every common task. Hidden in the workspace dropdown are four more custom workspaces, along with the unused ones that come with AE.  Using workspaces and customizing them will save you hours per year and make each different task more efficient.

I think there is no way, except not having an addition panel next to the main comp panel. I adjust my workspace all the time, because a panel is off. Kind of get used to it...
