Element 3D crashes AE 17 every time (Mac)

Every time I add Element to a layer, it crashes AE for me.  I'm running the latest version of AE, on a Mac with a RadeonPro 560 graphics card.  The crashing was the whole reason I upgraded to a new laptop with Radeon and it's still happening.  I'm very frustrated.  Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?  They told me Radeon would resolve this issue.

All the usual questions apply:

What OS version?

What Mac?

What version of Element 3D?

Does it crash instantly when you apply Element, or when you open the Element interface, or somewhere else?

My first thought is that it may be a graphics switching issue. Mac laptops, like MacBook Pros, generally have a low power GPU for standard use (to save battery life) and then switch to the higher end GPU when required.  Element may be running out of video RAM if the laptop is failing to switch to the correct GPU.  Try turning graphic switching off (System Preferences/Energy Saver) which forces the main GPU to be on all the time.

Thanks, Andrew.  It's MacBook Pro 15" 2017, OS X Sierra, and Element 3D 2.0.7.  It crashes on both AE CC 15.3 and AE 17.2.  Tried turning graphic switching off, and it worked for a little while. I was able to create an obj, when normally it would crash right after adding Element to my layer.  But it crashed as soon as I tried working with the object a little more.

The latest version of Element 3D v2 is v2.2.2. The version should work fine with After Effects CC 2017.
