Help! My video/audio keeps slowing down trying to preview the video

Hey I know this is an old problem probably but I'm having the same issue where my video is super slow, going in slow motion and I've tried all different types of help/tutorials but nothings working. Checked on RAM, everything is closed (google isn't even opened or files), reducing the resolution, reducing the quality, restarting AE afterwards -- still nothing. The video remains to go slow and I can barely get past 2 seconds without it repeating itself, lagging forever. Please is there any updates answer?

I am sorry for the delay -- I needed to get the screenshots from my computer. I have 16GB of RAM on my desktop and my processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7500 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz

. I lowered the resolution down to 1/16, the lowest it could. I lowered how much ram usage because a few videos mentioned that. I clear my cache what feels like every 10 minutes. It helps in the moment but thats about it. I'm still na novice to AE but I'm not finidnig an anwer to this 😕😕

Do you have many effects running on each layer?  That can often affect a preview.  Also do you have separate media cache drive, or specified folder, which you regularly empty? (You can check/set this in Edit > Preferences > Media & Disk Cache)

I know this can be frustrating, especially as on paper you should be able to manage fine.  Unfortunately 16Gb is now at the bottom end of AE usability and this means you might struggle with preview playback, but there's a couple of things you can do.

  1. Turn off any layers you don't need to preview or solo the ones you do
  2. If it's just about timing, turn off any effects you don't need to check the timing for as well
  3. Preview the timeline without audio a few times first, until you see the green bar building up
  4. Only expect at maximum to preview around 30 seconds at once - you have a very long timeline here, and AE works be adding frames to RAM and previewing from there, it's not a video editor - which (in effect) plays each file directly

The only thing I have on the layers is motion blur but even then when I take it off it doesn't change much. I clear my cache folder every 10 minutes or so but it doesn't change much. I usually hit it once it reaches 3GB. I'm thinking of taking it off but I'm not sure about the risk.
the video I'm trying to make is where every time I speak, an image of the according emotion appears.
Is there a way to condense the files down into one 'bar' without needing it to be the full time length?

Without any system information and details about your comp contents, footage used, preview settings, all sorts of preferences and settings for caches and audio and so on this isn't going anywhere. You need to be much more specific before anyone can even guess.

You could add in detail the tech specs of your system, footage and a screenshot of your complete interface at the time of the issue to try to see something wrong.
