How to achieve this mapping highlight effect?

Hi,

I'm getting myself into mapping, but there's some mapping effects that I just can't figure out how to make.

A lot of channels use an effect when moving frontlines on maps to showcase which territory was lost. For instance in the video below, there is an additonal color/layer that temporarily shows when the territory starts shifting, to display which territory is being won/lost. It temporarily highlights the area of activity in a brighter color, and then the normal color takes it over.

That looks really neat, and I have no idea how to make it in my own mapping. I would much appreciate any kind of a tip in that regard. I know how to make everything else generally needed for it, but that specifically I do not know how to.

Thanks!

Correct answer Mylenium

That's just a matter of (re-using) the same mattes over and over with delayed timing and possibly additional modifications with masks. not sure what more you would need to know.

Hey Mylenium,

You should know I got 1.3M views on one of the mapping videos, that I pretty much made using your tips. So thanks!

Problem is, I do not know currently what any of that precisely means, never used delayed timing, and not sure what re-using same mattes over and over means. Additional modifications also a blank for me certainly. So I'll start looking into that, thanks again!

I just need to have a sort of 3rd additional layer that would show when I move the other 2 colored layers? Leaving gap between em temporarily? hm
