Question

How to create a straight line in the graph speed (non curved)

Dear After Community! I'm new with After effect and I have a question 🙂

I spent hours trying to find out how to do a straight line in after effect.

I'm trying to reproduce the effect of this video of the fruits/vegetables coming fast and then moving very slow motion.

I'm able to create a fast arriving effect very easily but then I struggle to make the end of the speed graph as a straight (linear) line, so the vegetable/fruit can go slow until the end, at a constant speed.

You can find attached what I'm referring to (my fast arrival would be between 0 to 5 sec and then I try to create a straight line afterward).

If you have any ideas thank you!

  1. Pick a time in the timeline where you want the deceleration to stop and the motion change to a constant speed.
  2. Set a new keyframe (Alt/Option + p) at this point.
  3. Drag the ending keyframe forward or backward until you get a straight line between the second and last keyframe.

If you need the timing of the end of the move to be precise, you'll have to fiddle with the second keyframe and the deceleration curve. Looking at a speed graph and trying to visualize "position at time" can get confusing.
