Question

How to prevent shape layer masks from creating a contour?

Hey there! 🙂

I just wonder... when I mask an image by using a shapes' alpha channel it will create an ugly contour (it seems that the shape layer won't make a 100% overlay above the image below it and that the edge of the original image below comes through, without the colored and multiplied layer style of that shape mask layer above it)

Is there any way to prevent that? the actual contour of the shape is fully disabled.

Could you share a screen capture of your timeline? Press UU to reveal all modified properties. I cannot reproduce your problem. Also share with us what AE version are you using.

No matter what I try, as soon as an image got bright parts, these parts will be clearly visible as thin line. Darker parts won't show up like this of course because I assume it blends in with the dark overlay.

Correction: Darker parts won't blend in as they should. They won't cause a white line they will end up in a dark line as you can see here... as if the shape would only cover 99.99% of the image beneath
