How to work with legacy JPG2000 files

Uh Oh.

I've been using JPG2000 for years because:

1. It supports Alpha

2. I'm a PC guy, so (until recently) ProRes wasn't available to me

3. I'm very stubborn, and foolishly didn't listen to friends who said "quit using that".

Now please don't just make fun of me, but help me out.

AE won't work with my legacy JPG2000 files. Some of these files are assets in current projects, and with the recent CC19 upgrade, I feel sincerely screwed.

I either need:

1. A tool to convert an RGBA JPG2000 video to literally ANYTHING else

2. A plugin to allow AE to work with my JPG2000 files

Can anyone help??

I would maybe try one of these options

Simple, free tools for converting JPEG2000 files to TIFF or JPEG - Harvard Library Imaging Services - Harvard Wiki

But it may be easiest to find someone who has an old CS6 disk floating around.

And not to make fun of you at all but honestly to help you out - this shouldn't come as surprise. This was very preventable.

Understood.

Since then, I've found that "Scratch" (SCRATCH for Finishing » ASSIMILATE ) will convert JPEG2000 videos into ProRes 4444, so that's good.

Just looking for other long-term options.

And yes, I'm an idiot for using JPEG2000 up until 2018.

One of the best all-around and smallest file size suitable production formats is the Cineform from GoPro. It's is free if you don't already have access to it on your system. If a video will load up in the AME, just render to Cineform, 10 bit with alpha. It's far superior to Jpeg 2000.

If you don't have the codec just download and install GoPro Quick.
